Galaxy Nexus Battery Life

Mine isn't so good. Doesn't look like anything is really wrong on my device, no Kernel Wakelocks. This is weird. Not sure if I should return it or just use it less.

Stigy, that is absolutely horrid. I'm not sure what the issue is with it but I couldn't keep it if I was stuck with that for battery life. Thankfully mine is much improved. Has anyone who has done a factory reset had better battery life? After Saturday having the horrible battery life, I did a factory reset, then charged the phone with it off. Then that is when I had the amazing battery life I posted above: 23 hours 30 mins off charger and 4 hours 41 mins of screen on and usage.

Well my Android OS usage is 3h 7m 40s and time on battery is 3h 47m 51s so something is definitely up. Currently working with a dev over at XDA to figure this out.

I think my biggest problem is the radio because of poor reception where I sit at work. I am at 26% time without signal which means its constantly searching for one I would think.

What is this better battery stats thing? I think I've seen it on 2-3 devices with poor battery life on these screen shots here.

Its exactly what it says -- its an app that gives you Better Battery Stats. It's available from the market or for devs over at XDA. Definitely worth it if you are trying to pinpoint a problem like I am.

You guys, you have to also post the screen on time. Screen on time shows how much you are actually using the device. Just showing us the time off charger doesn't help because you can have it off the charger for 4 hours and have 1% life left but if you had the screen on the whole 4 hours then that would make sense. Likewise if you have 20 hours off charger and 1% life left you could have the screen on for only 1 hour. Gotta post up the screen on time.

I've got to say, I don't see the same battery issues that most people have been claiming. Granted I've been on battery for 4 1/2 hours and am down to 15% and started at 95% but I have been abusing it for those 4 1/2 hours. It's been awake for 4 out of the 4 1/2 hours. I've been sending a lot of emails and texts, been on the phone, streaming Sirius radio or browsing the entire time, and I'm not in the best of service areas. My old incredible 2 struggled to keep 1 bar or 3G in my office at all times, I'm consistently getting 1 bar of 4G while here.
I think it's safe to say, if I'm going through normal usage (handful of emails and texts, just a little streaming and some browsing) this phone will last me at least 12 hours with the standard battery. But I do have the extended battery on its way.

I had 17hrs total time since charge yesterday, it drained only 3% overnight which was great! This is my second Nexus and the battery life has been 10x better than the first one.

The screen on time was almost 4hrs, this is only my second charge also so i am hoping to get that up to maybe 5hrs total on time, I just ordered the extended battery today also :)

How do you take screen shots on this thing?

Hold Volume Down and the Power Button for a couple of secs. Should take.

How do you find the screen on time? Please remember all of us are not techincal wizards and are just normal every day phone users. I happened to have seen the other 2 screens people were posting so I followed suit.

Let me be more obvious. Those with that app installed appear to have absolutely horrible battery life.

I wonder if it would get better if that app were uninstalled? Just a thought!

I don't think so. But I keep gmail synced so I know when new emails come in. But actually view and respond on gmail on my work PC. Other than sync, I don't know why that is appearing.

I dont have my nexus yet so I cant answer. I wouldnt think that having push gmail on would show up as gmail running the whole time but I dont know. perhaps someone else can chime in

Charge with the phone off at least 3 times. Tripled my battery life. The OS is terrible at building correct battery stats.

Are you discharging to 0%? I have been reading things about lithium ion saying you should not discharge the battery to dead as it affect longevity.

I will say though battery life has been much better on my second nexus !

The app lists known wakelocks - not a complete list. Good for finding a rouge app, not the end-all for diagnosing this issue.

If anyone can provice kmsg and interrupt logs, I would appreciate it.

Any walkthrough on how to do this?

I would gladly do it for you if I knew how to get you these logs.

Definitely want to help out the devs regarding the battery issue.

Basically load adb, run as su:

cat /proc/kmsg > kmsglog.txt
cat /proc/interrupts > interlog.txt

Just need a copy of both. The little Android graphs are fun, but I can't see what is going on. PM me for anything else.

More diagnosing and I'll try and modify a 'battery kernel'.
