Hello, I have had the Eris for a few months now, It is my first smart phone and somedays I love it and some days I want to throw in against a wall . I have been going threw the threads for some time now and I and I'm getting totally confused. I keep reading about this ROOTING. What is rooting a phone??? can you do it and still use the 2.0 upgrade??? Or being a novice at the smart phone thing should I even think about it? I mean I got the Eris for a Phone, all the extras are great and i like to fiddle around with them, but I dont want to get in over my head with this rooting thing unless the benifits of it out way the trouble. so can someone explain in laymen terms about this ROOTING?
Thanks in advance ,Charlie

It won't matter. This is something that happens on every message board. You can post as many warnings and stickies as you want. It won't change anything. The best answer is to ignore the thread.

Does anyone actually believe they will stop pointless threads from being made? If so, you deserve the Nobel Peace Prize and should be sent to the middle east, asap, to negotiate a peace deal.

*Wonders how Obama got one and did none of the above*

I'm apart of some other forums and there usually always is a read before posting thread. Almost all of them say the same thing, use SEARCH, most things have been covered, be respectful, don't make pointless threads etc etc.
I actually had the same idea for one of my automobile related forums and it got stickied and useless threads actually went down. If there was a way to make new users read such a thread before posting it could help "cut the fat" if you catch my drift.
Its just an idea, it couldn't hurt

I dont think it'l work unless you start enforcing the ban hammer on redundant threads

we don't need to throw the hammer at anyone. If a thread is redundant the mods can lock it and send a PM to the user stating that the topic has been covered recently and to use the search function.
Could also just add that into your sticky theory, just a fair warning that threads would be locked if questions they ask have already been answered elsewhere in other threads.

All of you bitching need to read the 'zero tolerance' thread linked in the announcement thread at the top of the page.

This forum is attempting to be THE source for Android news and advice. You're GOING to see repeat threads. Try being helpful and welcoming, maybe foster a sense of community, instead of playing pile-on-the-newbie.

i think it's a little rude to come down hard on somebody for posting redundant threads...
i know I am a little guilty of it as well but the thing I hate and love about android forums
is that

you can ask a question and then the thread itself goes completely WAY OFF TOPIC and it's annoying to have to sift through 20 pages of a thread asking about your questions and people are talking about their plans for spring break(I love it because it allows you to get to know ppl)

but if ppl are like me...it's easier to just post the question again and hope to get a decent answer to help you out with your question....and i like how some ppl just re-direct the person to the link or some are just polite enough to "repeat" something they said in a previous thread....

i will admit the 2.0/2.1 threads are annoying but i mean from what i read in this thread, some of the responses don't make new comers want to ask questions...

I hate asking questions in the real world...because in the real world, people act the same way when something has already been explained before

and i am starting to hate questions now because for a news/help forum i've seen a lot of rude comments that are unnecessary...

if you don't like it or it's "redundant"...ignore it...you're only giving the thread attention when you post on it...

if you don't post...they(we) will have to search....

i'm 17 and i already got this logic...but i guess it's easier for others to complain :)

anyways...i've gotten my sunday morning rant out and this isn't meant to start some kind of forums war...

i figured everybody else spoke their peace so i should too :)

Thanks Joetarin and carmencrishnaya, the rest of the thread police can go hell.(tyring to keep it clean on your precious thread board) Sorry if you all were inconvienced for a minute but you know what? I did look . you try searching for threads while 3 kids all under the age 0f 6 are pulling you three different ways. obviously you all have no kids or just ignore them. but if was refreshing to see how you (except joe and carmencrishnaya)all took the time to to bash me instead of just telling me were to find the info.I cant wait to ask another dumb ass question. If you cant help me just dont reply. sorry to ramble on but I was curious if any of the replyers would take the time out of their precious day to actually read the whole thing.
But Joe the thanks again for the link.
