On a serious note, I have been wondering what some of you might think will happen with the smartphones now that we have smartphablets? (or tablets that is)

Do you think that cell phones will just revert back into phones? Or will technology not allow it?
Honestly, I believe that once I get my tablet, I won't need many of the features my smartphone has and I think I'll want to "downgrade" to a normal little ol' phony phone since everything I'll want to "play" with will be on my tablet. I won't need internet or games on my phone, or a million apps or navigation, etc. I want a portable 7" tablet for all that.

I don't think that will happen at all. Even a 7" tablet isn't something most people will carry around in a pocket all day. I also want a tablet, but it will more replace my smartphone at home for when I want to play a game or surf the net, but I don't see myself packing a tablet around on a daily basis.

You're probably right Hreth. A lot of people will still like their smartphones. I speak for myself I guess. I look to take my tablet everywhere and use it for everything.

I am hoping the future starts to lean towards tough phones that can withstand the elements. How nice would it be to be able to keep your cell phone in your pocket at a waterpark or be able to take underwater pictures with it when your in the ocean and stuff like that. That is the only improvement I am looking for in my phone.

Some handset manufacturers do make waterproof Android smartphones. They're just not widely sold in the US because there isn't that much of a demand. Just like ruggedized laptops are not in a large demand (outside of construction and government). But they are available if you seek them.

Personally, I think I'd go for a smaller form-factor phone, still smart but less screen to light up, and a bigger battery. I'd like to see it go a few days between charges. Waterproof, and wi-fi hotspot capability. (Free, rooted, of course. Phuck Verizon's profiteering on an inherent feature of the hardware I've already paid for. Grr. But that's another debate.)

I'd still want the thing to do smart-phone functions that aren't screen dependent, and even browse in a pinch, but I would definitely want to do more of those things on a 7" tablet.

I don't know about me I want a tablet but not sure which one I want I like the look of the HTC ones but at work we have iPad to win from the Xmas raffle but I know I will mot win it I bet I will get the kindle which I already have
