The only thing I have come across is that in GB 2.3.6 there was an app named "Tags". After manually updating to ICS 4.0.3 the app is no longer installed (at least that's the reference I get when pressing the icon). Yet "Tags" isa still listed as a system App in All Apps section of System. Anyone knows how this (will) work?

Looove it man! Its very fast!!

One thing I noticed that got fixed, the blank screen that would happen when you would hit home key, from inside an app. Would get a blank home screen or menu for a couple seconds.

I am unrooted and now have 4.0.3 (manual install)

If I copy the full ROM of 2.3.6 and manually rename it to update.zip and put it on the root of sd card , would I be able to "install" it again on my nexus I9020T using recovery ?

I try to repeat my question - is there any way to report the system issue (outgoing calls are not possible anymore - the phone becomes virtually useless, it's no good for me that I can play around with cool UI) to GOOGLE? How do I do that?

I did not do a recovery copy of the system before upgrading to ICS, and currently I am not sure even if and how I can downgrade to 2.3.6 without rooting the phone and if that would help...

See if you can find the issue already posted. If not, make your own thread.

If you want to try flashing back to 2.3.6, try installing this update from the recovery console (note, I am assuming you have the I9020T or I9023): http://android.clients.google.com/p...a25375426.signed-soju-ota-189904.1ada2537.zip

Assuming the file lets you install it, it should work to downgrade you back to 2.3.6. You'll want to do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset in the recovery before trying to install it. And no promises. You do this at your own risk.

I feel like I am "rolling back"to my good old SE P910i (6,5 yrs old, indeed and still kicking), I will at least be able to make/receive the calls and SMS... So much for the Android, used it for 6 months...

My baseband version seems to be I9020XXKI1, do you think the same GB installation file should be applicable as for the I9020T or I9023?

Since you installed the ICS update manually using the link in the OP, it'll say I9020XXKI1 (possibly I9023XXKI1, but I don't have an I9023, so I can't say for certain) no matter what, since that's the radio the update flashed to your device. The fact that the update let you install it at all suggests that you do indeed have either the I9020T or I9023.

The only way you could flash the current 2.3.6 to 4.0.3 update on an I9020A would be if you had a rooted phone with custom recovery image, which I'm assuming you don't.

That stock 2.3.6 update I linked you in my last post should almost definitely be for your device. What I don't know is whether or not it will actually let you install it coming from 4.0.3 with the stock recovery image. If it does let you install it, there's very little chance it will break your phone. If it doesn't let you install it, it'll give you an error before making any changes and stop the installation automatically.

I am not so good at knowing that, but I think my unit should be some I9020. The update came OTA, I did not install it manually, that's why I wrongly assumed it must be pretty safe to do it, did not expect so big issues...

Unfortunately, you'll probably have to do a wipe/factory reset to get the downgrade to work properly, though you can try it without wiping first.

It's very possible that a factory reset might fix the problems you've been having without the need to downgrade. You'll lose your current settings and installed apps (though a lot of those get backed up through Google), but the files on your internal storage (the "SD card") are left alone.

The best way to do the Wipe/Reset is through the recovery console. To access the recovery mode:

1. Turn off your phone.
2. Hold Volume Up while turning on your phone.
3. Use the volume buttons to highlight "Recovery" and select it with the power button.
4. Hold the Power button and press Volume Up.
5. Use the volume buttons to highlight "Data Wipe/Factory Reset" and select it with the power button (I suggest doing the "Wipe cache partition" option too.
6. Select Reboot.


If you want to try manually flashing back to 2.3.6, put that file I linked you a few post back in the phone's internal storage and follow steps 1 through 4 to get into recovery mode. Select "apply update from /sdcard" and find the update file and select it.

If it gives you an error, it means the only way to downgrade is to root your phone first (sorry). If it does install, select reboot and your phone will reboot into 2.3.6.

If you didn't wipe your phone first, there's a chance it'll go into a boot loop (aka get stuck and never get passed the Nexus logo). If that happens, you'll have to pull your battery and go into the recovery mode, do the wipe, and re-install the 2.3.6 ROM I linked above.

Are you 100% certain of that?

The incremental updates do verify that you're coming from the proper version of Android before installing, but the full ROMs don't seem to care as long as the device ID matches.

I think it's at least worth trying since if it doesn't allow downgrading with a full ROM, it'll just give you an error and cancel the installation.

I have i9023, and received the update from 2.3.6 to 4.0.3. Now i would like to downgrade to initial firmware (2.3.6). Does anyone know how to do that? On my nexus s looks ugly, fade and darky blue collors, lag in phone mode response, lag in virtual keyboard typing and many other unconvenients. 2.3.6 worked flowless, without mistakes, thats why i would like to downgrade. If anyone knows that, pls pls pls post it.

Do you mean the camera effects like Big Eyes and Narrow Mouth? Those work for me, at least with the FFC.

What you're describing is essentially the basics of creating a custom ROM. In order for the stock recovery to install an update, it has to be signed by the manufacturer (or Google in this case). Changing the contents of the update zip breaks the signature.

One thing you might be able to do without root is install the old 2.3 camera app. You'll need the CameraGoogle.apk from a GB ROM (link: View attachment CameraGoogle.apk) and put it in your sd storage. Then in the developer settings on your phone, make sure "Allow Unknown Sources" is checked. Use a file explorer to find and install the CameraGoogle.apk. If it works, it'll overwrite the ICS camera with this one. No promises that it won't have weird issues, though.
