Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Almost got ninja'd by Razor posting that DL article.

What does everyone here do for work (or student)? Just curious to see if relates to time spent on here.

I am a 23 year old college graduate (May 2011) working at UBS doing Business Intelligence Administration for our reporting applications.

43, currently one of the owners in a family bookkeeping/tax preparation business. So life ends in about two weeks for me until late April.

Just a reminder to all my MI and Ohio friends You know you want to add a furry friend to your family for the holidays! Oh and if dogs aren't your style, I have it on good authority that Last Day Dog Rescue adopts adult cats for FREE! :)

I think this link will work - it's a note I posted on FB, but it's public, so let me know if there is a problem viewing it.

Edit: Ok I don't think it works right so see below for the story!

Dear Friends and Family,

This past weekend, the unthinkable happened for us. One of our two 13 week old puppies passed on. Lucy had always been small, but we just thought it was one of the quirks of being a mutt, as it turned out, she was afflicted with a severe liver disease that stunted her development and left her prone to severe illnesses. She fought as hard as she could, but sadly, she wasn't meant to be with us for as long as we would have liked.

We had rescued her and her sister from Last Day Dog Rescue only a month earlier. During Lucy's brief illness and after her death, they immediately reached out to us. We discovered that two of Lucy's sisters had not yet been adopted. There were 7 adorable puppies in the beginning, so we were shocked to learn that they hadn't all found a home yet. LDDR blessed us with one of her sisters, which as been a great comfort to our other puppy and to us as puppy parents.

That left Jambalaya still without a home for the Holidays. I was hoping she would have been adopted at an event over the weekend, but it was not her day. So I have made it my mission, in honor of our 'Saint' Lucy, to help Jambalaya find a home. Please take a look at her picture below. We believe they are boxer/pointer mix. She is about 13 lbs and is approximately 13 weeks old. The foster mom tells me she is really energetic and loves playing with other dogs of all sizes. At the adoption event she really seemed to love kids, so I think she'd be a great addition to any family looking for a furry friend. She is a bundle of energy and joy and I hope that you will forward this information to help me accomplish this goal.
If Jambalaya isn't for you, maybe you'll be able to find another friend that would fit your lifestyle and family. There are puppies of all sizes, dogs, cats and kittens as well. Even if you're not in a position to adopt, I hope you will forward this email. Animals are hit hard during difficult financial times. I met a puppy at the adoption event who was given up by his heartbroken owner when she lost her home that week. So please consider giving the Last Day Dog Rescue calendars or apparel as a holiday gift this season to help them with all their good work. This rescue is one of the most remarkable I've ever encountered and travels many states away (Jambalaya and family were rescued from a kill-shelter in Tennessee) in an effort to save innocent animals from shelters that euthanize with gas. They do great work and are worthy of as much support as I can help generate and even more than that.

Please forward this to everyone you might know in the Southeast Michigan and Northern Ohio area. It would mean the world to us if we were able to get some of these puppies adopted in honor of Lucy, especially her sister. Thank you for reading my story and I hope you can find it in your heart to help this holiday season.

Jambalaya can be found here

Hey, BB, I tried scaling the pictures I wanted for wallpapers using Gimp, but I feel like they might be a bit smushed together. Do you get that, too?

Here are some examples:

Screenshot_2011-12-19-18-42-44.png
Screenshot_2011-12-19-18-42-11.png

The original pictures seemed more spaced out and even. I'm using 1440 for width, 1280 for height. Is that right?

You have the right size but you need to use image > scale> canvas size>unlink the chain icon on resolution box >and set size to 1440 x 1280. Drag and drop the new size in the little preview window and crop how you wish. Going off memory here. :)

Thank ya. It was a long 5 years but well worth it. Hopefully going back soon to finish my masters degree. Also want to get my MBA at some point.

Working through the Lehman collapse was the best experience I have ever had in the workplace though -- it was absolutely crazy.

Congrats and good luck with the master's/MBA! Getting my master's was one of the hardest and most rewarding things I've ever done.

On-topic (what?!) -- I love, love, love this phone.
Actually, in the lounge the phone might be off-topic.. but ditto! ;)

I loaded the nova launcher as an apk . When I edit the icons they come out tiny. Am I missing a setting ?

Sounds like you have the dock icons set above 5.. I have mine at 7 but I run a density of 300 so it all fits for me..

On a side note: LET THE HEAVENS RAIN DOWN DEVELOPMENT FOR THE LTE NEXUS!!!!!

Lol I'm a little happy.. finally 3 AWESOME kernels for 4.0.3 and 3 great 4.0.3 roms. Personally I'm on Mr_birdman_ rom and its fantastic. I've run all three kernels too.. my favorite is Francisco from XDA. He has an amazing kernel. This is why I bought Nexi and look, its only been 5 days and the development is something else :)

Correction! Use an image greater than 1440x1280

Image >canvas size >unlink chain next to canvas size width and heigth >set width to 1440 and high to 1280 >hit enter >then drag the pic around where you want to fill the outline >hit "resize" > might have to export from there depending on a few things. If so set quality (it asks you with a slider) to 100.

Franco's kernel is getting very high praise right now. I've said it many times, but the developement for this phone is like no other I've ever seen so far. :D

That's it, I'm flashing the factory image and staying away from encryption for now. Factory Images for Nexus Devices - Google Support for Nexus Phones and Flagship Devices - Google Code

I want nandroid and roms and... face unlock. Darnit. /me initiates Titanium Backup.

EDIT: BTW I've found Wifi File Explorer, first mentioned to me here I think, to be the best way to get files on and off of the device in Linux. MTP support is not so great yet.

By the way, if you want to use your GNex with Linux without permissions issues, you'll want to create a udev/rules.d file containing these for regular and fastboot access:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="6860", MODE="0600", OWNER="yourusernamehere"
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="18d1", ATTR{idProduct}=="4e30", MODE="0600", OWNER="yourusernamehere"

Bios, huh?

Okay: I'm 49, retired Navy Chief Electronics Technician (which means I don't need Geek Squad to set up my home theater :p ), I have a 19 y/o son and an 18 y/o daughter... both on rent-to-own. Cheap!

Wednesday will be our 21st Anniversary and I still refer to her as my Darling Bride. My technologically-declined Darling Bride.

Among lots of other things I do, I spend an extraordinary time either on my Nexus or with you guys here :)

Here are my full day 12 hour+ battery details for those curious about all our battery luck. This was on the light side of use today, but did use the phone for a couple calls and did some browsing and stuff. I am running stock deoxed by Fab with some of the search and brightness mods. Also did the mod for 5 row stock ICS homescreen with search box deleted, but no real battery tweaks of any kind. But do have a mod that is supposed to increase auto brightness that should decrease battery life. This is with extended battery. Will reboot now and see if I get any variation in battery % since some have seen big jumps on reboot when near 0%.

this happened to me when i used "browse files" from the icon select menu instead of "browse gallery". using the gallery allowed me to select/resize the icon size the same way you do with a wallpaper.

Any macbook air or pro users here?

I am kind of torn here. I have been pretty much a PC user all my life but I am getting to the point I want to look on the other side of the fence. Several quirks about windows 7 give me a headache, the driver issue I had a few pages back is one main reason. Its not the first time I have had driver issues. The constant antivirus updates, windows updates and spyware are driving me up the wall. I just want to be able to power up my computer and go.

Not to say Macs don't get virus or spyware or updates, I have heard not as often

I am at the point I want to try something else out. I have even used linux. Heck I have even at one time set up my own webserver (did not last long, however).

I am looking at a macbook either air or pro (probably air) just for something different. One of the things about apple is how lawsuit happy they are. Have they gone as far as putting this in their EULA, "While owning a mac, one shall not use, think about, work on, or smell PCs, or talk to PC users"?

A macbook would NOT replace my main windows 7 PC, but I may do some android tinkering on it. It would mostly be used as a secondary computer mostly for finances.

If you own a macbook air or pro, I would love to hear how the computer works and how well it will work with your Gnex or other android phones.

Hope this is not too off topic

So here are my beautiful girls! All pics taken with my Nexus. The no shutter lag has been nice, but let's face it, they're 3 month old puppies, it's hard to get them even in rapid fire mode! I'd say out of 3 quick shots, I usually get 1 good one. These are all taken in very low light.

I've had a 17" macbook pro for almost 6 years now. Great laptop despite the issues with my particular generation. If it's a secondary computer, I'd got for the air, its so portable and light! You could even get a 13" macbook and be quite happy I imagine.

I use AirDroid now for file management, I found it a few weeks ago and LOVE it. It's so easy to use, I would use it no matter what kind of computer or laptop I had. I haven't done rooting yet, but I noticed on launch day when I was considering unlocking, that it took a bit more digging to find the info of how to do it on a Mac.
