Root Things you'll Do With ROOT

This past week has been real exciting if you're the owner of a HTC Droid Eris and a member of this forum, viewer of Engadget or just happened to type the words Eris Root or Eris 2.1 into Google. This got me thinking, everyone(including me) is really excited for ROOT! What are your gonna do with it when we get it?

For users new to root, this could be useful as they would get to see all the things veteran rooters are planning that they would think was pretty cool and could also do.

Personally, when we get root I'm uninstalling the apps that came with the phone that I don't plan on using (amazon, messages, stocks, browser, teeter, visual VM, voice dialer, voice recorder, voice search). Then possibly over-clock a tad bit, and throw a nice 2.1 rom on.

How about my fellow Eris owners?

Meee tooo.... to all of the above! Removing amazon, messages, stocks, browser, teeter, visual VM, Peep, Footprints... And hopefully overclock a lil bit too... I can't wait.

"I feel the need...the need for speed!" So that's why I'm gonna put on a ROM that has been deflated from all the bloat and I'm gonna overclock to the limit of stability just to see what it will do then back off just below the point of diminishing returns on my batt usage.

I don't know how easy ROM customization will be compared to a WinMo ROM but if it's anything like that, I'll be at the whim of what the cooks decide to do though I found that there were several who cooked for the Omnia and they tended to listen to what fans wanted overall. Sometimes you didn't know you wanted a ROM like that until you put it on your phone. Control of customization...now that's exciting.

When the phone is rooted, I'll doing the same as most
Uninstalling alot of the programs I don't use
2.1 ROM
Overclock would like to see how it runs clocked between 550-700mhz
Save a lot of my programs on my SDcard once I buy the 32gig Class6 card (if it really is just a software limitation, if it's a hardware limitation I'll have to settle for 16gigs :( .. we'll see )
Get the Motorola Phone Portal program

HTC was built directly into the OS for the Eris
Even when people default back to home its running.
I wonder what might happen if its taken out completely

Ive been running home for about a week now and have found that as long as you dont reboot the phone, sense will eventually go idle instead of continually running in the background. Havent paid attention to how long it takes before it goes idle though.
