Nah just using ready made themes, icons, add ons etc...

Using linux would be called hacking on other OS's though.... :)

This is where I'm at right now. Off topic, but it is my topic afterall

A weird question (and please bear with me...)

I tried sending a picture message to someone yesterday and it wouldn't send. In the past when I've sent MMS messages with my 3G and wifi connection turned off I'll see the 3G icon appear in the notification bar, the message is sent, and then the 3G icon disappears. My Desire has always worked this way both when using 2.2 and 2.3 with Sense and now with dGB, as did the handsets I had before this (Sony C905 and K800i), but my Desire is suddenly not working this way.

I've just spoken to Orange (my network) about this and they said that to send a MMS message you have to manually turn 3G on, to which I've replied that you don't. I know I've sent picture messages recently and I'm sure they were while I've been running dGB - plus numerous ones before then - so my question is, am I dreaming? Am I imagining that it works this way because I'm 100% convinced that I'm right when I say I've sent MMS messages before without having any of the other radios enabled and the phone has activated the mobile data, sent the message, then deactivated it. Additionally, if my phone is no longer doing this and it should, do you suggest I flatten it and reinstall dGB from scratch?

Did you backup your apns from your previous Rom as per post 1?

If you have 1 apn for internet and another for mms, it will work regardless of WiFi being on or not. Show me what you have now please

Edit. Just re read. Mobile data must be turned on to send mms. If WiFi is on, you will see the 3g, h whatever pop up while it sends but not if mobile data is off. Not sure if sense works differently but with vanilla android that's how it works

Hi Dan,

I think you're missing something: I've been using the ROM for a few weeks now but suddenly MMS have stopped working unless I manually turn 3G on - previously when I sent a MMS with 3G turned off it would turn itself on when I sent the message, then turn itself off.

I've spoken to Orange & they told me that the Desire needs to have 3G turned on in order to send MMS, and that it won't do it by itself (rubbish - my Desire has done it since I got it almost two years ago) and they've essentially told me I'm lying when I repeated that mine used to work regardless of whether 3G was on.

In terms of APN settings yes, I'd read the thread and backed up & restored them as required, and everything worked like a charm, but the issue is that suddenly the Desire isn't launching the 3G connection when I send a MMS, unless 3G is already turned on.

APN settings in use are those listed at http://settings.orange.co.uk under Photo Messaging for the Desire (Orange told me to check my settings were as per that URL today, which I did and they were.)

EDIT: Just seen your additional comment. Sure I've sent MMS though while I've been e.g. on the train and the 3G thing has popped up then disappeared without 3G or wifi being enabled. Maybe it was more of a thing in my Sense days.

if 3g is turned off then it will stay off no matter what app requests for it (within an aosp environment anyway)
some networks like o2 support mms over 2g but still you are saying you see a 3g signal.
it would be a nice feature tbh i cant remember if i ever tested that with sense

My girlfriend has a Desire (rooted, but with the 2.3 developer build from HTC, not a custom ROM) and when she sends a MMS with 3G and wifi turned off the message still goes - you see the 3G icon appear, the messages goes, then the 3G icon disappears.

yeah i dont dispute that at all, its quite believable cos htc does weird stuff frankly and it would be a good feature.
im just saying ive never tested it when i was using sense and im not flashing back to find out so i take your word for it.

Having used this ROM for a few days now, I think I may have a couple of problems.
I've noticed that since installing the custom HBOOT my phone takes an age to boot past the first "why so serious" boot screen.
Also, though I started out with 330MN of free space, I've found I've run out of space alot quicker, with what seems less apps installed than when I ran GV. also getting the low space, and I'm not able to installed now apps once I reach 30MB..

Can you think what might be causing these problems Dan. I do hope its my phone configuration, and not the ROM itself.

Thanks.
