Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

For anyone wanting to test something to possibly increase their batt life this was posted by franco (kernel dev for the GN):

About the battery I want you people to test this: Reboot your phone, then after it booted up open up Camera, then close it. I think we have the same bug as we had on the NS. Google Talk Video version opens the camera during boot and its sensor gets fired up and since the camera isn't closed the sensor just stays there open in the background wasting battery like there was no tomorrow. Opening and closing the Camera after booting up closes the sensor and then the GN enters in Sleep mode just fine (easy to check with Cpu Spy).

I don't have a screenshot for you but on almost 7hrs on this cycle I have just 1.5hrs of wake time. Usually, before said fix/workaround, it would be at 50% of stated battery life time. Thank you for your useful post.

how many hours of screen time? because that should be subtracted from the awake time, no? (the time it is supposed to be awake because screen is on)

Awesome glad it helps! I too have seen a marked improvement on sleep time and battery life. Knowing if this is the true cause of the phone not sleeping properly could be huge and a easy fix imo for the googs to fix with an update. I know I'll be opening and closing my camera each morning after a fresh charge! :)

Video taken with Nexus of Lights on the Lake with one of the best friends I'll ever have. The language and music, especially the music, won't be liked by most...if not all. The language isn't all that bad. Some f-bombs, no big deal to me. Basically just us acting stupid :). It can be viewed in 720p, I forgot to switch it to 1080p. What I call the "love tunnel" and the trees near the end are my favorite part of this light display.

Hey Han, how did you get your battery meter to change like that? Seems like it would be much more accurate than the stock meter.

PS. Hello everyone! Merry Christmas. :D Just for kicks, I decided to see how quickly I could run down my battery if I really tried - playing a game and surfing the web simultaneously nonstop got to 4% in about 5 hours. Not bad, I guess; I could kill my OG Droid in a couple hours as well. Anyone else tried this?

I just did this yesterday. Ended up having to charge it for about an hour, but it took me just shy of 10hrs of multiple games, phandroid app, web and videos to kill it, charged for an hour on a wall plug and got 62% battery to finish my night off. So that means to me....about half as good as my OG. Oh and I was on wifi for 99% of that time. If I had been out at work or somewhere with only 4g, it would have been dead long before that. Stock battery on stock 4.0.2
Oh and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!!!!

repsonded to your PM, but i am posting the link here for everyone else as well, since it is still up.

---oid Emulators by Yongzh

that is the original developer's account, and i have been using those apks for months, so no need to worry about them. i know many people are weary of 3rd party market downloads.

edited to add: i cannot confirm that these work on the GNex, as i haven't tried them yet. they all ran fine on my thunderbolt and are still in use on my Nook Color and g-Tablet.
Downloaded the Gameboid emulator and the BIOS from here, transferred some ROMs from my computer; everything worked perfectly! My girlfriend's brother, also a gamer, was pretty impressed and immediately starting looking for an emulator for his piddly little iPhone, haha.

Happy Holidays everyone! I finally had a chance to unbox and activate my Galaxy Nexus last night. After the festivites today, I had a chance to edit a little video my wife took of me during the unboxing. Sorry that it's a little choppy in places... it's the best I could do to sync it up with the music. Enjoy!

Hahaha. The Dawn of Man music is a tad bit cheesy, but we'll forgive you. ;) Nice job.

Merry Christmas my friends. Been a little too busy to spend much time here this week, but now I'm off on a 12 day trip to Asia. At least I got to spend Christmas Eve and morning at home. We even watched MI yesterday. (I may have to watch it again in imax)

So although I'll miss my bio family, I'll have more time for my forum family and my Gnex. (time to try some Roms!)
