Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Here's a Google Music question... I downloaded some songs to my Nexus from my account for playback in the car. Connected the phone to my stereo via the 3.5mm male plug normally used for my Sirius radio. Music played fine; sounded just as good as it does from my iPod. But when the song was over, the music stopped. I tried this twice (picked a song at random and played it) and the music just stops when the song I picked was over. Um, why didn't it play the next song? Is this a setting or something stupid I'm doing? Google Music isn't completely driven by playlists, is it?

I've heard this happening to a few people. I have yet to have it happen to me. Maybe it's something to do with streaming and/or cache settings. Does it do it with every album?

@ hans that pink uni scared me I thought it was a joke upon flashing romans 1st builds right after launch day. I like it now :p

lol. Too "my little pony" for me. I went to the OG Nexus boot animation.

Google Music isn't completely driven by playlists, is it?

Google Music screwed up my albums, putting certain songs in their "own" albums and the rest in the real one. I tried fixing it but couldn't, so I just ended up putting each album as a "playlist". Now it's smooth as butter.

Hans how are you liking Romans milestone 1? I was using his build 9 and then switched to birdmans v5 just to try something different. Apex kernel with birdmans is really nice. Just flashed francos kernel now and its pretty sweet.

I really, really like it. Super fast and smooth, no lags. I'm using a Nova Launcher that I tweaked to get rid of that annoying gray bar on top of the dock, and, with the ability to hide the notification bar, I'm golden.

I really like Franco's kernel. I don't much care about battery life since I always have a fresh spare on hand.

The only thing I see forcing me to go back to 4.0.2 is lack of Netflix HD support on 4.0.3. (There is a HUGE difference in quality, I couldn't believe it.)

Until Netflix decides to update the app to ICS, it won't happen. Altimax tells me that the Netflix app that works for HD on 4.0.2 was never supposed to released and was leaked.

Frakking Netflix.

Every album I've tried, which admittedly, is only two. Symptoms are the same... pick a song, play it, song plays until its completion, and the music stops. I have not tried playing from a Playlist nor have I tried turning off Shuffle (that was a suggestion I came across while Googling (ha) the problem). Guess I need to play around with it a little more. Thanks for the reply.

Let us know if you get it working correctly. Have you tried switching off "high quality" streaming? I'm sure many would be interested in your findings.

Just to keep the music going, I went to "Songs" and "Shuffle All". Random songs all day! :)

Here's a mod that will increase brightness, and make the whites a true white. There is a pretty good screenshot on the OP comparing the stock white of the contacts display with the new and improved white.

[MOD] Auto Brightness Patch & Advanced Power Menu - Update 22.12. for IML74K - xda-developers

If anyone is interested, make sure it's for the right build number (you can find the build number you're on in settings/about phone and look at "build number".

Edit: These only work on stock deodexed roms, not "nightlies". Oh well.

Okay. For now, uninstall the game if it you downloaded it , reboot into recovery from ROM manager, wipe your cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik, then reboot.

See if that works. If you're okay without random reboots, make a backup in ROM Manager. It's essential to have a backup to fall back on in case you "soft brick" or something.

EDIT:
If that doesn't work, you'll have to flash another stock image or ROM and see if that works. I've been flashing like a perverted drunk old man, and haven't had a random reboot yet.

Hey guys...wanted to throw this out there, even though I haven't done any modding on this device, I do have a respectable amount of experience rooting, romming and the like.

My number 1 recommendation for flashing anything, backing up your device or restoring backup is to do this via the recovery image itself, not ROM Manager. I have experience using ROM Manager to do this, as well as the ClockworkMod Recovery and AmonRA recovery images (Here's to hoping that drellisdee from xda decides to put out a RA recovery for the Nexus :), it's my fav).

With ROM Manager as your method of all things recovery there is a higher likelihood that something will go amiss. I know that you all will ask for evidence but you may be experiencing these random reboots from using the app. I have seen problems on various phones, ranging from the LG Ally to the Droid Incs 1 and 2. That said, some never have these issues.

Furthermore, I will go on to say that the ClockworkMod recovery image has a documented history of various issues such as incomplete backups, halfway wiped wipes and other problems I cannot currently recall (Google it if you want evidence; posting from app and lazy right now). The incidences of these problems are, thankfully, lower than that of the ROM Manager app. Again, some users never experience these issues.

I have had little issue with RA recovery images and will be PMing drellisdee today about the likelihood of him creating one for the Nexus. I would much prefer to use a RA based recovery (it has a long standing history dating to the G1, the grand daddy of Android devices). Maybe this is why I have put modding on hold?

Let be clear and state this: I am not bashing or bad mouthing Koush or his development team or products. I am stating some experiences and knowledge I have been fortunate to acquire. My suggestion for everyone who mods is to attempt to gain comfort in using a recovery image for all flashes, backups and restores. This will minimize bootloops and other frustrations. It will also key you into the nuances of taking a proactive roll in your freedom with such a powerful tool.

I hope I have helped at least one person here. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any question or thoughts.

Thank you,

jmar

@Han: this is meant as an addition to your viable solution.

Hey guys...wanted to throw this out there,

Right on! Loved Amon the few times I switched over. cwm has worked for me consistently so I've stuck with what I know.

And about rom manager, I don't need any evidence :D It has borked my phone (and hundreds of others) in the past I don't know how many times!

Look forward to amon being available for the GN if it is to be. backup backup backup is our best friend :)

I still haven't found any ROMs I like better than the deodexed stock with Nova and the soft keys tweak, but I'll keep looking.

I would like to get rid of the gray bar. How did you do that Han? BTW, I really like the original Nexus boot animation, thanks!

I tried the suggestion from this Google support forum and so far, the problem hasn't reappeared. All I did was turn off shuffle. Now that kind of stinks because I'm a heavy user of shuffle. But I need to test more and see what I come up with. This was playing the next track within the same problem. I have to see if the problem reappears shuffling all songs in the library, not by album.

We don't need no stinkin' Beats audio... Slipknot and Corey Taylor sounds fantastic! <insert head-banging smiley here>

Francos kernels are win in I/O and the sd card and screen tweaks are nice. They are imo the highest performing kernels I've flashed (haven't tried #6 yet). They are not the best battery sippers though.

For those on the other side of the fence & wanting "marathon-like" battery life along with smooth performance give imoseyon's Minimalistic kernel a shot. It's simply stunning on the juice sipping ;)

I'm giving AOKP with Franco's kernel a try. Just flashed both.

Nice mod! I used the ICL53F_AB_APM_MID and it feels like I've fallen into a detergent commercial.

"My whites are whiter and my brights are brighter!"

Why go to any other GNex threads?
