Droid won, gadget of the year and smartphone of the year.

Heh I like how they tossed the 3GS a bone in editors picks
That's what I mean, the editors are in love with the iPhone. If you want an example read engadget's Droid review. I almost didn't buy my Droid because of it but decided to take the plunge anyway and I'm glad I did. Just imagine how many other people read that review and didn't take the plunge.

i dont get why you guys bash so much on the 3gs. it IS a great device, you may not like it but im pretty sure MANY (and yes, the sales prove it) others like it.

nonetheless, it was great seeing droid as gadget of the year on BOTH readers and editors choice! woo hoo!

I like the iPhone a lot. That isn't saying much, I know, but I do. However, I've been a customer of Verizon Wireless since the begining, and have no real complaints. So, switching to AT&T was never really an option for me. If the iPhone had come to Verizon before the Droid did, I probably would have one right now. However, now that I have my Droid, I love the ability of Android to customize. I've also been using motorola phones for a long time now. In fact the Droid would be my 4th straight Motorola phone. I've had nothing but great results with my Motorola phones (though I understand a large number of people haven't had the same results I've had). I'm a very happy Droid owner who has pretty much forgotten about the iPhone.

Not trying to sound like a hater, but how can the editors pick the 3GS as the Smartphone of the Year, but the Droid as the Gadget of the Year? They're both smartphones, they think one is more deserving of that title, but the other is a better overall gadget? Really sounds off. But I guess they'll justify it b/c of Google Maps. Still, doesn't make sense.

Well according to one of their editors:

Nilay Patel said:
We thought the Droid was an important gadget and marked a big shift in the industry for both Google and Motorola, but when it came to picking a pure smartphone, the iPhone was our choice. The Droid is great, but it's still not quite as polished as the iPhone, and the app and accessory ecosystem doesn't compare.

*shrug*

I had all three variations of the iPhone since 2007. It's a good phone but use it for 2+ years and you will get sick of not being able to do simple things, like multitasking. But what I was simply stating is engadgets inability to remove their Apple goggles.

I am actually surprised that engadget actually had the droid as a winner of so many catergories. I am not to surprised about the iphone winning but if you look it seems more apple products won the readers choice awards then the editors pick.

my big this is how could both the editors and readers choose the most anticipated as the ipad!!!

so my question is.... they haven't proven that the iphone can make calls with any other network any better, some tmobile customers still get bad calls and can't make them on iphone, so maybe iphone is no better on verizon, hence why maybe it shoulda won gadget of the year, not smartPHONE of the year, it doesn't do much phone stuff, well not as much as it does gadget.

kind of a lame decision, i always get better service etc. as a smartPHONE i would say droid is better

I voted everything DROID that I could see - but these polls were reader polls, so that means those of us voting (and I voted on every category they had) made a difference.

TBH I didn't expect DROID to get gadget - navigation was a hands down when I voted, it had more than the sum total of all other devices listed lol....
Yeah, not sure what happened. I mean the Apple crowd was strong, I was surprised to see that POS iPad won Most Anticipated.
