So I dropped my Droid Eris from 5 feet onto asphault ...

I did the opposite. 5 feet landing screen first on the asphault. Damn thing is scratched up to all hell now. Sadly, it is no where near as resistent as my iPhone screen was.

OUCH!!! that sucks! Mine is wrapped in fine cloth locked up in a box that is chained to my wrist with bubble packing around it. I am not drop conscious at all!!!! I feel for you guys, I know they said the screen is scratch resistant but I am not willing to take the risk.

Paid $8 for Best Buy to apply my shield. If it doesn't look right they will keep adding them till you like it :), then picked up a very nice silicon case that still kept its nice form.:D

I agree that the silicon cases maintain the form of the phone much better than some of the hard metal and plastic ones, but ever since my mother referred to the old one that I had on my Eris as an "ugly phone condom" I can't get the image out of my head and just leave the hard plastic one on.

True story.

I actually find the opposite to be true. Many of my friends have scratched their iPhone screens horribly.

I throw my phone on the table, put it in my pocket with my keys (daily), rub it on my jeans to clean the screen, etc.

The other day, a guy at work was dissing on my iPhone wannabe phone, so I rubbed the screen on the tip of my pliers in a rather volatile fashion, only to reveal 0 visible scratches or markings.

You are soooo bold!!!!! Its nice to know that if anything gets through my screen cover it should hold up.....but then again if something does get through it my phone might not survive (falling bricks, pianos, or a truck running over it). Its nice to know that it has such a nice screen.

I've dropped mine twice, once on asphalt, once on linoleum - both times I'd estimate from about 4 feet up. Both times it fell screen down, back popped off, battery flew out - picked up the bits, blew off the grit, put it back together, no problems. :) I have one of the Verizon screen protectors on, no scratches either. Whew!

(Interestingly, the second fall was when I was trying to get the back off to do a battery pull (it wasn't making/receiving calls or sending SMS, although receiving SMS just fine) so it was actually OK that the battery flew. But yes, butterfingers.)

I think it really is circumstantial. Aside from dropping it, my Eris screen has also scratched while in my pocket. I don't really care anymore, it's a phone, they are prone to wear and tear.

Just the screen protector. I didn't like the way the full shield made the phone feel.

Ok now I feel better, cuz they installed my screen protector for free too...lol :p Have you ever tried those mirrored sp's? They look cool, but might be hard to see in sunlight... you wouldn't know anything about that though since you try to avoid the sun right? lol .I bought a couple off ebay, but I haven't put it on because I have a boxwave on that I love and I'm worried that it will be all fudged up if I try to reapply it. I love to switch up the look though. I have a few different colored cases too that all coordinate with a golla pouch I bought. Getting off topic here... wait, what is the topic? ha ha

Weird I'm 37, bald and they offered to put my screen protector on with zero flirting. Guess I'm hotter than I thought. ;P

Yeah, I bought a pack of screen protectors at my Verizon store and the guy nearly snatched my phone out my hands and THEN asked me if I wanted him to put one on my screen. Granted, it was perfect with no bubbles. Guess he was just bored.

Oh yeah? I took a sledge hammer and slammed it down on my phone. Not a scratch on the screen though the rest of the phone was in a pile of rubble. That's one strong screen huh? :D;):)

My Eris is going commando. I'd like to think I'm responsible enough to not drop it. I also don't use it when walking around, trying to look important, so that may be what's saving me. :)

+1

I don't drop it too often. You can't drop a mini-computer on the ground too many times without expecting it to be in pain.

I would go for the $2.99 amazon.com case again, if I got one. If anything breaks or gets ugly, it might as well be the cheap case!

I flirted with the guy at the Verizon store to install mine for free.:D

I put film screens on maybe twice a day for people and they never flirt with me, damn OTD.

8$, really? They can't do that you know, it's illegal :p. I always just do it for free, I feel bad that you're probably spending 30$ bucks on a case and 15$ on the screens, might as well have someone like me who does them every day do it :p. (this is for iPhones and touches..) I've been offered 20$'s as a tip, but I had to give it back to him because I like my job :p

I tried the flirt technique as well, but did not have the same results. The guy in the store looked at me like I had a third eye in the middle of my forehead. My wife said that flirting will only get me so far.

LOL well you have to know my story to understand. I got the phone from a Verizon reseller for about $150.00 less then Verizon was selling it (460.00). Took it to a Cricket Reseller and they programmed it for me onto their network. Then I went to Best Buy to get the screen cover and case. The case was like $10, and the Zag screen Protector was $24. I didn't want the bubbles on it from putting it on so they offered to do it for me (for $8 of course). It took them 3 shields to get it right. Soooo I think I got my $$$$ worth.
