Viewsonic g tablet or Asus Transformer?

If your ONLY use is displaying sheet music on stage, then I would probably say the G-Tablet will work. The screen viewing angles aren't great, but with a Skinomi screen protector, they're OK. Just make sure you're in a position where you can see it properly.

To be honest, I don't think I would go with either as a music display. The screens aren't quite big enough for most sheet music to display properly.

Doubt you'd "LOVE" the viewsonic.

For your desired purpose, search if there are even decent apps for displaying sheetmusic. If not, it won't be worth your money just for that.

That's probably why the iPad is so popular with it- lots of artsy types are willing to spend lots of money just to look cool...

What he said--make sure there's an app to even do that first.

I'd probably get the Transformer. In fact, if I didn't have a GTablet, I'd have a Transformer. Might get one anyway. The hardware on the GTab is fine (except the screen) but I'm coming to the conclusion that I prefer to use my tech for doing stuff--the GTab more and more is tech for people that like fooling with tech. I guess you could say that to a certain extent of all of Android (at least vs. the iPad), but my GTab is proving to be more on that level than other Android stuff. It's the level of modding you have to do to it, I think. The Transformer won't (I assume) have those issues.

I would recommend the Transformer, even though I own the g-tablet and love it for it's value and performance. The Transformer comes out of the box much more ready to do what you are asking. I saw one in store and the viewing angle never came into my mind as being a problem, though I wasn't looking for that. The g-tablet would be a problem, especially since you'll be looking at it from different angles (I play trumpet myself, so I know you'll want to move around while playing and not stay completely chained to the tablet). Take a look at the Acer Iconia A500 as well, which I was considering before deciding to go budget. Good luck!

Can the Viewsonic G tablet display PDF files? If I make PDF files of music sheets, can I put them all in a folder or directory (whatever they are called ) can I display them in alphabetical order and select the one I want to view and display it on the Tablet?

Yes you can
ezPDF Reader is a good app (cost a few bucks but gives you lots of options).

Pretty sure there are free options to view PDF also.

I am currently trying to get a copy of ezPDF to run on my gTablet. I can't buy it from the official Android market. I can't get it to download from Amazon. Amazon wants me to enable the 'Unknown Source' feature which I can not find and Viewsonic tech support will not help me locate even if it exists. The only reason I bought the tablet was to run this single app so I can read PDFs. And I can't. If you have been able to use the ezPDF app on the gTablet, how did you achieve this feat? Thank you for your time.

I changed the rom to flashback honeycomb rom and it works perfectly with ezPDF.

I own a gtablet, at least until I sell it and honestly I wouldn't recommend it to anyone beyond hard core geeks looking for a toy. At this point, $260 seems overpriced to me for the gtab considering its poor screen and less than stellar reliability. Even with honeycomb, its superior screen size and all its ports, my 7" gingerbread equipped nook tablet blows it away usability wise.

Most of the ebook reader software will do PDF's. I run Aldiko and read pdfs almost every day - tech doc's mostly.

If you still can't get Amazon AppStore apps to download you need to authorize other sources than the Android Market. You do this by going to the "Settings" icon and tapping it. You will then get a list. Go to Applications - Unknown Sources and check the box. Then your downloads should work from the Amazon market,

I have both. Get the transformer or the newer one. Viewing angles will be an issue. Plus, Viewsonic is not supported by the Google Market. You will have to sideload stuff you want.

Or, do what I did. Buy the GTab, and when you tire of the inconvenience, get the transformer.

I do not mod my devices, so if you are into that, it might make a difference, but it won't on the screen's poor viewing angles.
