Wifi performance while bluetooth is on?

Hey guys,

I've got my Prime on pre order.

One thing I plan on using it for is a portable music jukebox. I plan on streaming all my Google music, which is cloud based, to the Prime, then using bluetooth to stream the music to my hifi.

However, I've read reports that wifi download speeds are massively hindered when bluetooth is switched on.

Can somebody run some speed tests under these two conditions and report back please.

Thank you

I just ran 4 tests each with bluetooth on and off and saw no difference.

I can tell you that all 3 Primes I had (have 1 now), had more degraded transfer speed as distance from the wireless router was increased than any other device tested. Probably will not be a factor for some but I definitely cannot move as far away with the Prime before performance is to slow or I just lose connection all together.

XDA has a thread on this with a lot of incensed people:

Bluetooth + WIFI Problems (a pair made in hell?!) - xda-developers

This was the last nail in the coffin for me. Although I'm not really a BT user, there are too many issues with this tablet that ICS isn't going to magically fix on the 12th. I've had the box unopened at home for 2 days now and it's going back.

Apparently the bluetooth doesn't need to be connect or transfering data, just switched on, on the Prime.

In that case bluetooth did not have an adverse effect on my Wifi.

I just tethered it to my iPhone 4 via bluetooth and tested again and the Wifi still works fine. Im not sure if there is any way to specify which connection to use. If there was I could get data moving on both and see if Wifi suffers.

Ok I finally remembered the head unit in my car has bluetooth streaming so I connected to it. My room where the router is located is 40 feet away and one wall between.

Sitting in car with doors open.

1. Bluetooth disabled > 13xxx kbps on 4 tests.
2. Bluetooth enabled > Song Streaming > 400kbps and below on 4 tests.
3. Bluetooth enabled > No Streaming > 400kbps and below on 4 tests.
4. Bluetooth disabled > 13xxx kbps on 4 tests.

On 2 it took a few second for the issue to show up. I got one test that was normal and then it fell apart so I ran 4 tests after it started happening.

On 3 this is stopping the stream from 2 but leaving BT on.

So just turning on bluetooh did not affect the WiFi but streaming audio did affect it significantly.

I confirmed the problem on my tp this weekend. Trying to watch video streaming over wifi, while streaming audio to bluetooth headphones, video would come to a halt, wifi speeds would slow to crawl.

so to verify it, i did the same thing on my archos 70, with NO PROBLEMS at all...

my TP is going back to BB...I am very disappointed. I want this tablet to be all it was meant to be....

Mine is definitely an exception...Bluetooth connected to my phone (at work have nothing else) running speedtest on prime I got 8.3 mbps down and 2.5 mbps up. I got same results with Bluetooth off.

Your testing under the wrong scenario. The issue does not happen by just pairing and connecting devices via bluetooth. Mine connected to my iPhone and several other bluetooth devices without affecting WiFi.

The problem comes in when you stream audio over bluetooth.
