Is there a True Evo 4G successor coming soon?

EVO all the way! Or at least Android... iPhone just ticks me off on so many levels.

1. I despise iTunes. It wants to take over everything..computer, phone, life.
2. It's absolutely rediculous that the iPhone cannot be used as a mass storage device.
(Sure, it CAN be. If, once again, you use iTunes to access it)
3. It's a flat out scam by Apple to not give you any way to expand the storage in this
day and age of super cheap memory.
4. As someone already pointed out, cant change the battery. I use my phones
excessively, and in rural areas. (When a phone is SFS, that battery does NOT
"last all day")
5. No WiFi tethering. Not even with a fee.
6. Only apps Apple approves of. Except for providers locking them down, like ATT, I
can load far more variety of apps before having to hack the phone.

The iPhone is an amazing piece of technology. That's the most annoying part of all. It really is an amazing device. This is evidenced once you jailbreak one. Apple has most of the coolest stuff locked down and disabled. And stuff it should have, that is industry standard, like a SD slot, is missing simply to pad Apple's pocket.

That's why I have an EVO, cuz every time I pick up an iPhone, I feel cheated, like driving a Z06 Corvette thru a school zone fulla cops.

really...
1-annoying reboots...
2-extremely fast graphics on the 4s... Games and videos are amazing.
3-apps run faster..
4-from shutdown, the iphone4s boots up in 30 secs... Evo more like 2 mins...
5-how about battery life? Evo has none. Iphone 4s lasts all day..
6-camera and camcorder on the evo are a pile of dawg poop... If you don't have perfect daylight, the pics are horrible... The iphone 4 with 5mp took better pics than my evo. Now with 8mp and a new cam on the iphone 4s.. Fogetaboutit!!!
7-screen... Give the evo the size advantage here but that is it. I am already used to the iphone 4s screen... Retina display has better resolution and it's especially better outdoors in bright sunshine. I could barely see my display outdoors...
8-annoying re-boots.
9- lousy memory... I had maybe 25-30 apps and it was always giving me the low memory warning...
10- ios apps have a more refined finished edge to them.(not an evo thing, more android)
11-only thing ios does not have is a decent navi app... Or at least i have not found one... The navigation app on the evo was amazing.
12- did i say annoying reboots?

I enjoyed my evo, but it ain't no iphone....... Fire away!!!!!!!

One BIG BIG reason I love my EVO and Android in general--customizability.

Seriously, as great as the iPhones are, and they are technological wonders, one can't customize them as much as with an Android phone. So far, I've been able to root my EVO, partition its 16GB SD card, and put Myn's ROM on it and do things I'd never be able to do with an iPhone.

Oh, plus its largest screen in its class helps this >40-year-old with his reading ability. Yes, I've enlarged the fonts, but that can only go so far. :p

how is the ip4s better than the EVO?

There is only one thing about the iphone that makes me insanely jealous. The quality of the photos that it takes compared to the evo. If I was smarter and more motivated I'd mod an iphone camera into an evo.

YES! YES! AND YES! This is one of the major reasons I refuse to get an Ipad. That and apple is a major polluter in China and then all the trade BS too. Yeah I know HTC is probably almost as bad.

5. No WiFi tethering. Not even with a fee.

AND HELL YES!

Audio is important to me so I sure hope my next phone has a way to use add-on amps and DACs from the likes of iBasso or Fiio. Of course it would be best if the phone came with very good DAC and amp, but that is asking a lot. The price would be too high for those to whom audio is not that important. The iPhone has this ability through the use of a LOD, but I do not want an iPhone for reasons previously mentioned in this thread. The camera in the EVO4G is good enough for me that I feel no need to pack a digital camera around. But, I still feel the need to pack my Sansa Clip+. I do now find myself listening to streamed music more and more. Things such as MOG which stream 320 kbps. The audio from the EVO is ok, but I wish it was better. A comparison to the HiFiMan HM-101 ($40) on a laptop shows how deficient the EVO is in good sound.
So I am waiting for my next Android to have ICS w/usb Hosting, LTE, and a kickstand. My contract is up in November. I'll likely wait until then.

I'm sitting here saying "why?" maybe I'm just not an intense phone user as you guys, but my 4G is still serving me well. My only complaint is the abysmal battery life (which with enough tweaks I've gotten to borderline-acceptable though it's a joke compared to my WM Intrepid which got 7 days of minimal usage between charges if I ran it down low) My only concern is that Sprint will be dropping support for the device and I already bricked 1 EVO and am sure I'll eventually do it again...

I will admit the iPhone has a better screen, but it's too small, I have enough trouble reading forums on my Evo (which are the primary sites I use since my bank and CC have dedicated apps).

Also as somone else said, and I concur, I HATE iTUNES! Especially when I can just turn on Samba and schedule file sync on my android devices... and organize my music by FOLDER instead of ID3 tag (which as most of my music is older and ripped from CDs, is not present or gets "automatically filled in" completely wrong...) For me the only perks of the iPhone are battery life and lack of crashes (and if your jailbreak then you often lose the latter)

And who says there's no pay wireless tethering on iPhone? Unless the 4GS broke it, there's MyWi (MyFi? MiWi?) which worked great in the short time I used a 3GS (though honestly I could never use it on AT&T due to limited bandwidth) but it does require jailbreaking. It does cost $20, which is rather high for an app but honestly, if your going to tether a lot, it's worth it's weight in gold.

I'm seriously curious what you all are doing that eats up the EVO's resources (outside of gaming, I know that's a killer)

Also, somone mentioned PSP games... I cannot imagine the pain-in-the-tail control scheme you'd have trying to play them on an EVO since it has no Dpad or major hardware buttons...

There is already a replacement for beloved EVO 4g. Called the HTC edge atm. Hopefully Sprint will.do the right thing and get this beast and call it EVO 2. HTC is hurting on its last financial report so hopefully there willing to work with sprint that put them on the map with original EVO and can come together to make edge a EVO 2 with a kickstand for god sakes

^ I'm not familiar with that device, but I'd prefer they reserve the name 'Evo 2' for a while... I am not fond of the branding they've done. The Evo 4G did well (back ordered for months after release), so now what - half their android devices have "Evo" in the title...

I'm a bit bummed by that. It'll make me (has made me) far more skeptical of the future 'Evo' lines...

EDIT:
@ wodin - Definitely root the phone for ICS. It'll be worth it. They are getting close too! And you get a lot more bang for your buck rooting IMO. And the root sub-forum is very active and full of nice online people.

Yeah, what's up with all the EVOs all of a sudden?
No clue. I don't get it. I did understand the following evos thought (mostly)

EVO 4g - the original one
Evo Shift - little brother
Evo 3d - The techie uncle

But last time I went to a sprint store there were dozens of evos (not quite).
Evo Design, Evo Tablet, Evo Spoon, Evo Bookcase, Evo mk.2 ... **

You can read about the Feb sneak peak of htc first quad core phone. Can only hope this will be our next EVO.

Well this interesting. Talk about the edge being released in Februay. I am thinking they just talking about its debut at MWC. Sprint can jump on this HTC edge, think may just found an upgrade for my EVO.

Possible February Launch for HTC Edge
Two big questions. Does it have a kickstand, and is the charging port on the bottom of the device (when held upright)?

I would like them to improve battery life, improve audio, more RAM, and in most other ways be the same as the EVO4G. Of course, a dual core at least should be a given by now. If they just improve the audio I can forego carrying a DAP. USB Hosting would be nice, but then I would be carrying a Fiio17 or similar so getting away from carrying other things is my priority.
