Root wanna root xperia play

Hey guys, i live in saudi arabia and purchasing apps isnt supported here, so i wanna root my xperia play R800i so i can use marketenabler.

How can i rott it (running 2.3.4) and am i really ata chance of bricking my device? And if i unroot it, can i use my warranty? Thanks!

All you have to do is extract all the files in the zip file (either superoneclick our doomlord's one click) and run the extracted file.

It will not brick your device, but once you've rooted your device, if you aren't careful, you can brick it.

Rooting MIGHT void your warranty, check with your service provider to see (odds are it will void your warranty)

Sorry to drag this back to the top but im an xperia play user in the UK trying to root (im pretty down with all the geeky stuff so no need to explain that part) all i really wanna know is, does vodafone uk put any kind of block of the device preventing root access exploit software from working?

Ive tried Gingerbreak a few times to no avail, ive tried the zergrush method you suggested around a week ago, again no joy.

I have tried different sd cards ive even performed a factory reset on the handset and then tried rooting, still nothing.

My bootloader can be unlocked as i checked first, i know gingerbreak is supposed to work with a LOCKED bootloader but so far completely no joy, any ideas?

can anyone help me out with rooting? i have the android and java sdks downloaded but im not exactly sure what drivers or whatever i need to use with those in order to use superoneclick or zergrush's method. i want to be able to move a bunch of stuff to my memory card cuz i want to be able to download more apps and push them to the card.

What i did was install google adb driver package revision 4 from the sdk manager list then downloaded the SuperOneClick v2.3.2 from here.

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! (click the top one).

When i downloaded the SDK manager the top sections under Tools and Android (the top 10 checkboxes) were all checked so i just clicked install and the usb package 4 is already checked too.

I use jzip its free just google that.

Unzip SuperOneClick to wherever you want it plug your device into your pc using the usb cable,(on your device) select settings>applications>development and check the box next to USB Debugging.

Skip the prompt on the device asking for pc companion open SuperOneClick and click Root at the top, sit back and enjoy, worked for me when nothing else would


P.s Im not a developer or Android wiz kid of any shape or form im mearly telling you what i did to get root on my xperia play, it is pretty straight forward the only confusing part is knowing what parts of the sdk to install but i just made sure i had the google ADB driver package and the rest was done for me by the software.

ok so i have android sdk open. i have both the tools and the platform-tools installed and the usb driver installed. do i have to do anything with the android 2.3.3 (api 10)?

Hi.
No, you now have what you need, just run the SuperOneClick with your phone connected, just make sure you have USB debugging enabled and try and use a different sd card if possible for safety reasons as sometimes sd cards can be wiped by the exploit.

After your device is rooted unplug and reboot before installing busybox as it will probably throw an error saying your sd is mounted even though it isnt.

After reboot is should install correctly, use titanium backup to back everything up BEFORE you move or delete anything or you could find your self with a bricked handset.

if you rooted with superoneclick, it installed busybody.

Titanium backup is available on the Android market as both a free and paid version. I'm sure the developers would love the support, but if you feel like being a cheap ass, save some money and buy it when you can afford it (support the dev's!)

However it is important to buy pro versions of root apps to help dev's as they do it all in theyre own time TI backup pro is essential in my opinion.

I completely agree, and only suggest using Google if for example, you live in, for example, Iran, where both Paypal and Google market do not allow you to make purchases. Also, buying apps supports the dev's, and provides reinforcement to continue making better apps (I'm removing the last sentence, I'd you wanna edit your quote)
