The Best Chargers I've Found To Date for My SGN

For anyone interested in quality chargers, the best quality chargers I've come across:

Samsung OEM 1.0A Original Home Wall AC Travel Charger Adapter + USB 2.0 Data Sync Connect Transfer Charge Cable This is the stock Samsung charger that came with the phone. For $6 to get it WITH a MicroUSB cable is pretty darn good. I ordered two of these. Note the MicroUSB is an older model not the same glossy plug one included with the phone, but a cable's a cable as long as the charger is the right 1amp output!

Verizon Wireless Branded Dual Cigarette Lighter (No Link sorry :L) I order these at work all the time as an IT manager. They're basically the same as the below Griffin model. I **believe** they output 1amp as well from both USB ports. (I'm a big fan of straight USB ports from the cigarette lighter jack so no matter what device you have if you've got the right cable it will work in any car etc) The nice thing is they sit "flush" in the jack and don't stick out much.

Griffin Technology PowerDuo Universal Micro for Smartphones - Black $16.82 on Amazon Comes with a cigarette lighter AND an extra wall brick (brick is a loose description it's rather small like the OEM Samsung charger) It's a micro edition of the older PowerJolt Duo I own which is only 500amp output and chargers so slow!

I'm still on the hunt for a really thin and flexible USB-->MicroUSB charger. In the winter when it gets super cold thicker cables/plastic get really touch to bend etc so the thinner the better. Haven't found a great one yet, although I was considering Best Buy's RocketFish brand, albeit the overpricing. ($19 for JUST the cable) The ones I'd been using were from either MonoPrice or CablesToGo.

Any suggestions for excellent cables of this sort?

Wall charger only outputs .5 amps. From the comments I read in the amazon customer reviews the wall charger has issues recognizing which phone is capable of the full amp...so the little power block is basically worthless as it charges so slowly. Ugh

As far as car chargers with USB ports go, most of them aren't wired correctly to allow an Android phone to pull the current that it should to take advantage of the charger's capacity. The data pins should be shorted together inside the charger, but in most cases are not, so the phone identifies the charger as a USB source, rather than an "AC charger", and subsequently limits the current draw.

You can verify this if you go to Settings, About Phone, Status. The "Battery status" will either show USB or AC. If it shows USB, your charger sucks and is causing your phone to draw less than it could. This is a problem if you're running it in your car with the display on, navigation on, and bluetooth on. Sometimes the charger will not keep up with all of this.

The solutions are:

1. Get a proper charger.
or
2. Crack open your crappy charger and solder the data pins together and cut any traces that lead elsewhere from the pins.
or
3. Buy this cable: Amazon.com: Naztech Micro USB Charging Cable - BlackBerry, Cal-Comp, HTC, LG, Samsung, Nokia, and Sony Ericsson: Cell Phones & Accessories It shorts the data pins internally, so any charger will appear as AC and you'll charge accordingly.

I bought this exact one a little bit ago and I can confirm it works flawlessly for charging and also data transfer.

I've been using the same Motorola chargers from my D1 and D2 and they seem to charge up the Nexus faster than the charger Samsung provided.

I don't see how. What output ratings are printed on them? The GN's is 1.0A. Motos are usually in the 750mAh. range. But you never know eh?

So weirdly the Griffin cigarette charger charges at full 1amp, but the wall unit doesn't detect as greater than USB :L It's a defect inherent in the product as you'll see on the reviews on Amazon...for some reason the Galaxy Nexus doesn't view the charging block as an AC charging device but a USB...and not even at the full amperage :L

I'm not sure how you or the Amazon sources are coming up with the lesser than claimed charge rate or output of the GN's supplied wall charger but mine seems to charge pretty darned fast leaving me to believe its outputting the full 1.0A as printed on the side of the block. From 10% to 100% in under 1.5 hours is not too shabby. Unless one puts a meter on it how does he know?

As for the car I found a dual cigarette lighter socket USB 1.0A per port @ Wal-Mart for $12.00. There are some dual USB socket chargers out there online with 1.0A & 2.0A ports.

Another option is a Proclipusa.com charging car cradle that pumps 2.0A.

I'll report that with 2.0A powere source connected while wireless tethering to laptop with two browsers open to two live GPS tracking sites loading large map tiles and running Google Maps navigation on 4G all at the same time impressed me. I started at 95% battery and was @ 100% when I checked about 30 minutes later.

Loving this thing! I waited through the bionic and the SGII rumored for Verizon and am glad I did. Mine has been some real smoking fun.

Well the easiest way to tell was the following:

-Battery Info - On the PowerBlock Universal Micro wall AC plug, the SGN lists as "charging USB" not AC, like with the standard Samsung plug.
-My standard full extended battery charge takes roughly 2-2.5 hours. The charge on this device lists 6-7 hours.
-When plugged in over the weekend to test it out I also found out that the phone WASN'T charging on the AC micro unit...it listed the phone again as charging on USB, and there was an estimated *seven* hours to charge from empty. (It actually seemed to be DRAINING more than charging...)

Something definitely has to be up-On the Samsung branded charger and two of the samsung ones I purchased last week they work flawlessly, but not the Griffin. (Again the car micro half of the package worked fine, not the AC one for some reason...)

This is the product I bought:

That's why I figured I'd clarify I originally had the older Powerjolt which definitely only output 500maH. The new micro is great. The Sammy ones are also great, but the idea for the Griffin one was that the plug spokes are retractable so that it can't scratch anything it's stored with...I may put in a ticket with Griffin and see what they say about it.

Is this the one you're talking about? I bought that one when I had the Droid. It worked for the Droid, Epic 4G, and Droid X but for some reason it won't work with my GN. It works about 1/4 of the time.

The Griffin PowerJolt Duo Micro Universal USB works fine for charging nexus I can confirm. I bought the PowerDuo pack which was both the car adapter and a wall one. (No cables included) The wall one didn't charge at full speed which is a large portion of my posting in here but the solitary car one is fine.

Both don't come with a cable, but you can get any microusb cable super cheap.

That's peculiar, because my PowerJolt Dual (12v car) only shows USB charging, even though it's rated at 1A per port. I've tried it with a variety of USB cables, including the once included with the Nexus.

Oh yes mine only shows USB charging as well, but it charges much faster than my old single port one which was likely only 500volts out. I believe the PowerJolt Micro is rated for 1amp so while it shows as USB it's still charging at a higher voltage.

The oem cable was made form a very hard plastic, and the construction was really thin... I like the ones that are thick and with a more pliable plastic on the connectors... seem more stable...
