Help Is there a way to install on to SD card instead of USB storage?

Ok, you know when you move apps to the SD card or when you have to install extra stuff for a game, it goes to the built in USB storage instead of the SD card. I want to know if there is a way to change that so it goes to the actual SD card instead.

I downloaded a couple of games that take up alot of space. The second game I downloaded says there isn't enough space on the SD card to install the extra stuff, even after I moved everything out of my USB storage onto my phones storage.

I am not sure in fact. I assume apps like titanium backup can do it but I've not tried. There was a post on xda proposing to change the partitions but I don't think it solves the problem

just rooting will allow you to access and edit system files, like removing bloatware. Plus there are many useful apps that can only be used on rooted phones. you do not start over unless you start installing different roms. my phone is rooted and I am still using stock rom. as far as modifying your phone to install apps to external sd, I dont really know the method but I think there is a way to do it if you are rooted.

It's a very good question.

As a new Samsung Exhibit II owner, the charging LED, and managing apps on an External SD card are the only 2 big negatives I have found on the device so far.

Hopefully somebody will find a way around this. I got a 16 GB card in there that is only available for media storage and documents right now. I'd like to install some larger apps on the external SD card.

No, rooting does not change anything. You get superuser and the terminal app. If you don't do anything else, you have exactly the same phone (with 2 more apps that will not do much by themselves).

I'm not sure it's that easy to move things to the external sd card... I still have a lot of room so I won't investigate a lot at the moment. If I find something, I'll report here. Let us know if you find an easy way !

Thank you, I have been reading about rooting and all that for a couple months so I get the pros and cons for the most part, I just thought I remember reading that it starts everything over, but that's only with new roms which I didn't know. I'm pretty sure I'll be rooting very soon, so that's good to hear.

I had the same problem. I ran out of space cuz I was downloading a lot of gameloft games. Than I came acroos this free app in the android market that lets you move the games to the external sd card its called "GL to SD". This app requires your phone to be rooted. Once installed just grant superuser the permission to run it and your set to move games to the sd card. Enjoy.

This is great to know... looks like I'll be rooting my ExhibitII just for this reason alone. This THREE AREAS of STORAGE is silly... 1) Phone Memory 2) Internal SDcard (called USB storage) and 3) External SDcard (user supplied). To what benefit?!!? Just give me more phone memory and an external SD Card.

I rooted my phone and I have titanium back up.

When I go to manage my apps, it lets me "Move to SD." I know there are 3 different storage place: System Storage, USB Storage, and SD Card. Whenever I unmount the SD card, the apps that I moved in there are grayed out. So for sure they're on my external SD Card.

I'm still new too rooting and such, but I think I can "Move to SD" because my phone is rooted and I have titanium back up. This was my very first experience with rooting and I highly recommend it.

hey i found out how to do it, its very weird and interesting at the same time. connect the usb to ur pc, when the files show up on computer u have two different files one is ur external sd card one is ur android memory. when u go into android memory u will see many different files, the one that is the heaviest is the one with all the apps in it! it is named as "android" cut that file. remember to cut it not copy and go back to computer then go into ur EXTERNAL SD CARD then paste that file over there! FROM NOW ON YOUR SD CARD WILL BE UR EXTERNAL SD CARD IN YOUR PHONE!you phone searches for android everytime u want to move anything from phone to your sd card and where will it find it?exactly it will find "android" in your external sd card, ur internal sd called will never be used whenever you go on an app and click "move to sd card" if u have any more questions shoot me a text. But the catch is that you have to reformat your card and create two partitions. One is a fat32 partition which will be your main partition(for storing music, movies, pics, etc...) and make the other an "ext2, ext3 or FAT32 partition in that area (create as primary, not logical)" which will store your apps. Works great and will automatically move any app you install to the card. This lets you run apps installed on your sd card even when you have it mounted on your computer.

Their is a Way! More easy way guys jus go to xda they got a swap usb for external download flash with clockwork done! Works great an super easy didn even use a computer all on my phone it even improved my benchmarks way quicker an super easy..

You have to download the phones usd drivers, go to the xda forums they have a very detailed instruction sheet which helped me when I had this problem, good luck
