I know a bunch of us (especially those of us coming from a blackberry) have been waiting for Slacker to add the "cache" feature to it's Android app. Well, I downloaded their latest update yesterday and caching is in!
this sucks. i cached for free on my old blackberry for free too. it seems as though all their caching is done wirelessly now (you used to have to use a usb cable and connect to your computer) and they're starting to charge. lame lame lame.
I have been nervous to use Slacker after some were thinking it was causing a wipe on the SD card. Is this still (or was it ever) a problem?
Coming from a BB Storm, Slacker had proved to be a much better app than Pandora. I just hate all the issues that have hovered around this app since I tried using it when I first got my DROID.

yes, im certain it was a problem. It wiped mine twice. I uninstalled it and it never happened again. Whether it still is or not, i do not know. Went to pandora...hate it compared to slacker, never listen to it. But, it's better than losing all my pics/videos/etc again.

I've been using Slacker since I had my old Blackberry too and it was one of the first apps I got when I bought my Droid. I use it multiple times every single day and I've never had any problem with it at all - Nothing ever happened to my SD card. That being said, I know some others have tracked some SD card issues to possibly being a Slacker issue...So...I dunno.
I am not sure which version is the culpit. I am not sure when Slacker 2.0 came out, so I cannot say for sure. Or even if it was ever determined 100% that Slacker was causing the issues.
When I uninstalled Slacker, it had to be around the January time frame. I just took the stance of better safe than sorry, and I jumped over to the Pandora camp. I do believe it is (or possible was??) a rare occurance, otherwise you would see alot more discussion and rants about it on here.
Regardless, it is a good reminder to do periodic backups of your phone and/or SD card.
I see a lot of people here saying that Pandora sucks compared to Slacker. I've used both and I don't see much of a difference (but then again, I haven't been using Slacker for that long). What's so great about Slacker compared to Pandora?
Caching is the ability to store the songs to your SD card so that you can still listen to music even when you don't have reception...and frankly, even when you do in order to conserve battery.

Pandora is a good streaming music app, I will not argue that, but for me Slacker is king. Now that we do have caching, as most former blackberry owners know slacker is unstoppable. Easy to use never sends you spam lets you ban either songs or artists. You can make your own stations or listen to a premade station.
It seems to be fixed I've listened to a few tracks on the hip hop and r&b hits thru my surround sound system cranked all the way up and one from Max on my phone no distortion
I'll be staying with Pandora until they get it ironed out. It's a shame, too, because I really like Slacker's pre-programmed stations. No matter how many songs or bands I add to a station on Pandora, I seem to hear the same music over and over.
