BTW updates for 4.0.3 and beyond will not be going through Verizon. Just not sure why we see 4.0.3 in AOSP but not on the Nexus yet.

So I tried the "battery saving measure" of turning of my google talk on the Nexi today.....and battery usage is much better.

For those of you using AOKP....could someone post(or send me) a pic of the Android OS usage (i guess it would only be comparable if you use the gtalk app??)? I am really disappointed that I cannot have the GTalk app open all the time on a google phone (yet)....unless I want to charge my phone several times a day. Probably going to be using AOKP or ME2 as of this evening, just curious if I am going to run into the same issue if I want that particular app running all the time.

Not necessary... this is a vzw branded phone and all software has to go through them before we get it
and we haven't seen the 4.0.3 released yet because (the last i herd) Google was still working on the awake bug that is affecting 99% of us and it is even effecting the AOSP on 4.0.3... there was a news story on this a while back on phandroid maybe 3 weeks ago and that still seams to be the story

I wonder why that would be. AFAIK, GTalk is a push app so it's not doing anything (such as polling) between message notifications from Google's servers. Did you also turn off Mobile Network?

i am not into 4.0.3 yet, until i can see all the final details that Google is releasing to us is out (although it should be to much different form the source coding that is out now) and see how VZW screws it up but for this any 4.0.2 ROM or a rooted stock "should" work haha

I just flashed AOKP and the Nova Launcher (as well as iso's lean kernel). With my current combination is there any way to hide the notification bar? I'm messing around with my homescreen setup...

i've told my friends/fam several times over christmas that i wish i had this feature. or could enable it somehow (ROM feature or app, perhaps). zero-shutter lag is great, but if i wanna take a quick pic... it definitely takes a few seconds to get to the camera. and many times, the moment has passed.

i mean there is not much in difference in the base so it shouldn't be to hard to actually switch it over i just don't want to develop for something that can have a huge change in it before the final version is released that may have to cause me to start it over and all not being that experienced yet

and if you wanted to test you ndroid flash a 4.0.2 and then the kernel and see where it goes like i said it will not be a daily user yet so it wont be more then an hour or so if you still want to test it out

Although not the end-all solution, if I think I will be in a situation where I might need the camera quickly, I make sure to turn on the camera before hand and then turn the screen off. With the camera already on in the background, it pops up much quicker when you slide the lockscreen to the camera icon. The con is that the camera is running in the background which probably eats into your battery life. But still a good compromise to get me through my son's football game or cub scout meeting...

Nope. The only thing I did was sign out of GTalk on the phone. I don't think it has been specifically identified as to what part of GTalk (if it is even GTalk....I can only speak from what my phone is doing) is affecting the battery life/Android OS so much.
Problem is, I can never remember to turn it back on when I leave for home, or work, etc....I hope the NFC Tags may help with that later....

Several of the suggestions that I saw, listed the GTalk as a duplicate app...which kind of makes sense to me, if you have a computer logged in on GTalk at work, and its logged in on your phone, and it may be logged in at home on a computer workstation, although asleep (Which all of that is true for me), every computer is not receiving every IM, but your phone is receiving ALL IMs in GTalk. . So, when I am in front of my computer at work, then I should only be using the GTalk on that computer, and not have it signed in on my phone......But, that is the part that is amazing to me....a Google app????

I am at 8hrs on and at 55% discharging. A HUGE improvement over the last several days/weeks

this is typically about the same battery usage i get, i use gtalk prob once a day. never sign in. never sign out.

unless it's part of AndroidOS, i've never seen it come up on my batt usage.

If you are referring to the toggles in the notification shade, that is part of AOKP.

Okay, stupid question here: Is 24% for Android OS even remotely normal? On my Rez running Gingerbread my Android OS is invariably 2-3% and I don't think it's ever gone above 6-7% no matter what I'm doing. Is ICS so different, or is there something particular about the Nexus that it keeps the OS so busy?

i see your point, and prob works for a lot of people. but if i know i'm going to be somewhere i wanna take pictures... i'll take my DSLR. my typical use case of my phone's camera is for instances where i wasn't planning to take pictures, or i'm out and wanna grab a quick shot among friends. if you've taken a walk or been out with your kids/nephews/nieces/etc and wish you could have taken the picture quicker, this is exactly the feature i'd like to have.

when i think about phone cameras, i don't necessarily want the greatest specs. i want the best features and usability. i realize this has nothing to do with your point, but i never understood the arguments for choosing a phone solely based on the specs of the camera. /rant
