{How To}Installing missing android market and google services

Tested on wm8650 tab with 2.2 and fake market app

Install Google market by yourself

To install it you need following:

1.Download package "Set up Google apps.rar"

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QSM6ATPB

2.Unrar it and install .apk files from "app" folder in this sequence:

-1.Google Services Framework
-2.OneTime Initializer
-3.Setup Wizard
-4.Talk
-5.Vending

After that steps I have working google market.

After this in some tablets there do seem to be some apps that aren't on the Android Market...to fix this

Edit the build.prop file
1) Open Root Explorer
2) Browse to System
3) Click and hold on build.prop (on bottom)
- Scroll down to Edit Text
4) Click on the Text to Allow Modification
- Find this line: ro.build.fingerprint= (located about half way down)
5) Change it to the following
- ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion/mahimahi:2.2/FRF91/43546:user/release-keys
- or -
- ro.build.fingerprint=generic/utv210/utv210/smdkv210:2.2/FRF91/eng.urbetter.20110301.142336:eng/test-keys
6) Save the File

Open Android Market and then Click on Home (launcher)

Go to Settings->Applications->Manage->Running
- Click Market
- Then Clear Cache (NOT CLEAR DATA!!!!)
- Then Force Stop
- Click Google Services Framework
- Click Clear Data
- Click Force Stop

Open Android Market (it will error this is GOOD!)

Shutdown and Restart the tablet
- Wait for Wireless to Kick In
- Wait for System to Finish Loading

Open Android Market
- If it opens without an error GREAT!
- If it opens with the same error... give it a couple minutes or multiple tries at opening (it will go through)
- You may want to just wait for it to tell you there are updates in the Market... it will definitely work from that point on.

Just registered to say how fantastically useful this method is - I bought a WM8650 for my little girl, primarily so that she could play some games she loves on my wife's HTC.

Took a restart and about 3 openings of "Market" to get it to recover from the change to the build.prop file but from there it worked perfectly every time.

I thought it was going to be useless without this fix - so many thanks. :)

Wow , this is great .
I baught a White NETBOOK Wonder Media WM8650 Android 2.2 WiFi only a month ago for my daughter here in Argentina ( about 200 american dollars ) . It's not a tablet , it's a netbook . But basically , same trouble : Fake market , no Google apps , no GMail , no Gtalk , etc .
To be honest , I didn't want to try the root options untill the end , as a last one . Then , I decided to follow the steps you gave us , and it worked great !!!
Please note that in order to configure a new Google account once I had all the apps installed , I had to connect the netbook to the router through a cable . It was impossible to do it via wifi , I really don't know why .
The thing is that the netbook is working properly now , with a great market that we can use . I really wanted to get this , since I have a Motorola Milestone and I really love Android .
Once again my friend , you have done a great job , and thank you very much for sharing it .
Please excuse me if I made a mistake with your language , it's not easy for me to write in English .
Congratulations !! Horacio .

Well, the install and everything for the Market went great, but when I try to download an app, it will start downloading but never show any progress. Tried googling the problem and trying a bunch of things, but nothing worked. Any suggestions? I'm running 2.3.1 btw.
I had the same problem with another device, it killed me, for months I tried everything and found out finally it had to do with my ISP. Market requires a specific port to be used, and some ISPs block it (and I am in Lesotho where there is only one ISP!). Try from 3G or another wifi hotspot. If it is the reason, there may be ways to unblock this port (5238 or sthg.. you could find on google).

Thanks so much: it worked!

I have this model: Wondermedia WM8650
this 7inch 8650 Mini Netbook that is sold on different places
Other Laptops & Notebooks - FREE POSTAGE & NO IMPORT DUTIES RED 7inch 8650 Mini Netbook Notebook Laptop WiFi Google Android 2.2 was sold for R1,050.00 on 23 Dec at 18:29 by ricci2gems in Johannesburg (ID:52678593)
It has Android version 2.2, kernel 2.6.32.9, build number generic-eng2.2froyo ver 1.5.1-20110708.095253

I followed the above steps:
- installed apps from the .rar as described above, that basically replace some of the services present on the device and insert a Google Services Framework that will enable authenticating with Google instead of Exchange as before
- edited the build.prop in order to "fake" a different model that is licensed to Google
- Played with "Manage Apps" in settings as described above in order to give full access to Market.
I had to restart Market several times, also had somehow to edit build.prop a second time as changes had been lost after a restart. At some point, I had to reauthenticate with Google and it did not work through Wireless but did on ethernet.
And Now I have a full access to Market!

Note that:
- you need a sd card to install the apps from .rar
- you need rootexplorer app. I would suggest the author to include it in the .rar for convenience.
Root Explorer (File Manager) - Android Market

Alternatively, I found these other app stores are not bad and some have apps that can facilitate access from the device:
- SlideME
- Soc.io? Mall
- Get AndroidStuff
- Amazon Mobile Apps but this did not work with the default prop, I think it will now wioth the modified prop.

All right then, seeing as mega uploads is down for the count, and because i want to add my 2 3/4 cents into the pot, i thought i would give you my version of the instructions.
- = ~ Bare in mind that i am using the iview, which the software says is a WM8650 yet on bench marking says it is a HTC based device so results MAY be different~ = - i never thought android has ID issues till just now as i am sharing this with y'all =))

STEP 1)
copy and paste and down load the following file: http://www.mediafire.com/?95ipjgdlqcbg3g1

STEP 2)
Unzip.......the file ( :O ) i am sure we all know how to do this so no real instructions here for it.

STEP 3)
Once it is unzipped, please go to \gapps-hdpi-20101114-signed\system\app (yes these are all the folders) once there, you want to be concered with and copy the following files (either to sd card or in the device itself, though sd card would be quicker)

com.google.android.apps.googlevoice-40208-0.4.2.8.apk
com.google.android.apps.uploader-1509-1.5.9.apk
com.google.android.backup-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.feedback-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.gm-148-2.3.apk
com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox-112064376-1.1.2.64376.apk
com.google.android.gsf-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.location-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.marvin.talkback-9-2.2.1.apk
com.google.android.partnersetup-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.syncadapters.calendar-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.syncadapters.contacts-8-2.2.apk
com.google.android.talk-130-1.3.apk
com.android.vending-1820-1.82.apk This is your market
com.android.vending.updater-1000-1.0.apk You need this after we are all done to update the market

I will give you a second to uncross your eyes and take a deep breath. Now if you are wanting to free up space after this exercise, then i can say that the ONLY two apps you can remove are the ones i have highlighted in italics. The Vending is what MUST stay as this is spartan!!!!!!!!! opps i mean this is your market ;)

********************************************************************************
And we are back from the station identification, and i am hoping your installs, and everything went smooth, you had time to get a drink of soda, coffee, water....let the dog out, etc...we are going to get back into the instructions:
*********************************************************************************
Step ?) This is Optional. What i did (results may vary) was as soon as everything was installed i started gmail. Naturally i had to do the sign up thing which i did.

Step 4) Now that you have it all loaded, and your wifi is turned on, (yes i said you need to be logged in), shut down the machine and turn it back on (also known as power cycle, rebooting etc). Reason being, if you try to access market right now, it will just load for a few second then disappear. We need to make sure the changes are in the "registry" so we can rock and roll.

Step 5) Once your tablet is booted back up, and you are on wifi, *IF* you get a message saying gmail cannot sync that is awesome! (HUH?) did i just say that was good gmail cannot sync? Yes i did. As now you want to log into market.....give it a moment to fully get loaded. You will be asked to agree to the every wonderful ToS (terms of service). Now once you see the market before you, put the tablet down, do a little dance and get ready.

Step 6) Remember when i said if gmail was not syncing it was good? here is why. When you log into market and select your first app, you will see a indicator saying that (your account email) wants access...press grant gmail will sync (once we set it manually). Reason for this being good for you is A) Less of a pain in the rear later, and creates a "tunnel" for market. Now every time you power off the tablet and back on, the syncing of gmail will make sure you have the fresh hot, low on calories market ready to be gobbled up. B) you get a chance to have a strong sync with gmail.

Step 7) (MANDITORY: HIGH IMPORTANCE) If this was very helpful for you and you got the android market working most excellently, please send your offer's of double chocolate muffins and 2X2 Extra Large coffee to a certain charming Wolf Ice Storm :'

personal thoughts: i never once used the "set up wizard" the OP spoke off, as when i rebooted my tablet (i had the same thoughts) i found it was slow and made my tablet very cranky.

personal thoughts: i never once used the "set up wizard" the OP spoke off, as when i rebooted my tablet (i had the same thoughts) i found it was slow and made my tablet very cranky.

I tried this (and thanks for the pack) and it sorta worked. For instance, my Google contacts now synch (YAY) but not my calendar (Meh). Oddly, I can't find any of the apps I installed in the app manager except Google Voice. I already had the Inbox set for GMail, so that's no different, but this pad was set up to not allow you to get into Google in Accounts. I've now done that (which was the main thing I wanted), but I'd still like to get to the market (nothing found there, and upgrades from AndroidPIT that try to go to the Google Market are failing). And I'd like to try the dedicated GMail app, but don't see it and don't know where it installed to in the directories.

I installed these by unpacking to an SD card on my PC, putting the SD card in the tablet, then clicking/installing each APK. However, I have no idea where in the directory structure they installed to, and can't see them. Do I need to move the APK files onto the main memory, or should the APK installation have done that? If so, where can I find them, and can they be manually added to the app manager?

Thanks for any help!

Richard - android@inbox.com (replies cc:'ed to e-mail would be MUCH appreciated)
