What should I do first with a fresh Hero?

My new Hero should be here tomorrow.

So before I load any of the must have apps or widgets, what should I do 1st?

I suppose a nadroid back up (is there a hero guide for this?) before I root/change from the stock rom. Then what? Go for 2.1, or stick with the supplied 1.5/1.6 that HTC have available?

I'd like to keep sense and the HTC apps, but quite fancy 2.1 if it's usable enough.

2.1 as I read in the nexus forums, supports a full google backup of mail, contacts and sms? So when My Desire comes, I could just enter my Gmail details, and the desire should download all my apps contacts etc?

Also I need a PDF reader. Any good free ones?

The Hero comes with a PDF reader which you will need if you read the instruction manual first.

Thats excellent news. Most devices dont seem to. Wife's Samsung didnt.

Now onto what else I should do. Is Eclair stable enough on the hero?

Android 2.1 is due for release next month so i would stick with 1.5 for now.

I found the CyanogenMod-Hero build very stable and perfectly usable, but it sucked the battery at an alarming rate compared to the 1.5-based ROMs I previously used.
