Getting my Eris tomorrow! =)

well I've been wanting a new phone forever.. i'm currently using a Env2 and i liked it for the most part but i wanted something more updated and a smartphone.. well this past Saturday night i dropped my Env onto a tile floor from about 3 feet up and cracked the screen.. internal only.. you can't feel the scratch on the screen and the LCD liquid is spreading on the left bottom of the screen more and more each day and i can't read my txt msgs so sunday i went to verizon to use my moms upgrade and they wouldn't let me because it was a week to the date of the upgrade so i left very annoyed... My step dad called them and needless to say they upgraded my phone and shipped it Yesterday.. so It should be here by 7 tomorrow night.. i am impatient and i can not wait. I've done some research on the Eris and it looks like i'm going to be very pleased.. so my question is how long is it going to take me to get used to the set up of the phone and what pros and cons do i need to know about? and anything else that would help.. thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I would start with the sticky threads at the top of the forum here. The tips and tricks thread along with the battery thread will be the most helpful. The others will just leave you with a strong urge to beat your head against a wall.

Hope you like the phone.

Hmmmmm............I would have definitely recommended he do a forum search for 'why you should use a task killer.'

My bad. Just trying to inject some humor :D

The eris is a great phone. It lags sometimes. The battery life leaves alot to be desired. But everything else about the phone is really good and for the price, you can not go wrong. If you can't wait for 2 seconds while the device switches screens, then perhaps you should just go back to a simple flip phone (not implying anything, just making a global statement for the whiney inclined).

Welcome! And by you screen name I see you are a fellow KLOVE listener. :) I contacted them about an Android app and they replied saying they are on the process of developing one.

As for the Eris, I love mine! Sure there are minor things here and there, but no phone is absolutely perfect. I hope you enjoy your Eris as much as many of us do.

I came to the Droid Eris from an Env2 also, and I've been constantly pleased. The minor quibbles about battery life, lag, etc don't begin to compare with what I *couldn't* do with the Env2.

For some idea of geek level, the first application I installed was ConnectBot (I've been waiting since my first cell phone, circa 2006, to be able to affordably ssh via my phone into the boxes to which I have ssh access) and I've not looked back. If you're not on such a geeky trip phone-wise, you'll still likely be pleased coming from the Env2. I'm using that phone as a backup alarm clock (doesn't hurt -- search for the alarm issues some have had with the Eris here), but that was its best feature now as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy!

I just got mine yesterday.:D I have been a long time windows mobile user, and was resistant to changing platforms. But I was using my wife's Eris over the weekend and I was sold. Everything just WORKED. I looked at the Droid, but came to the same conclusion I did when I bought her the Eris. It's big, boxy, and UGLY. Anyway, I'm converted. I've been playing with the Eris non stop since I got it. Now if we just get root so I can customize it like I could the windows phones I'll be a happy camper.

And if i get 2.1 i will be an even HAPPIER camper! Sorry, just ever thread seems the need to turn into a 2.1 thread now a days. BTW: Welcome to the forum and lot of the problems that we see now should be fixed in 2.1.

2.1 2.1 2.1 2.1 2.1 2.1 2.1

Agreed, the Eris is on-point like cactus needles, one of the best. imo, you made a good choice. And rooting would take it to next level...(crosses fingers)
