ICS discussion of OTA update (Includes discussion of OTA update 4.04 IML77)

Read about the update being rolled out at work this morning and was dying to get home and try it out.

All done now. WiFi Xoom - Maryland, USA

Notes:

- Movement between home screens is a lot better. There can still be a wee bit of choppiness, but on the whole, a huge improvement in my opinion.

- As mentioned above, moving shortcuts and widgets around is very smooth.

- I know the clock font has changed, but can't remember if the label fonts, etc. have; However, it all looks crisp and much clearer from first glance.

- Dislike the wall paper choices. There are two parts to this note:
+ The wallpaper choices provided are terrible. They seem to be grainy and of much smaller resolution.
+ We've still not tackled the issue of using our own wall papers. We still have to crop the picture which sucks.

That is it as of now. Finished my update about an hour ago so still messing about with it.

Just download photos that are sized to the correct resolution. Interfacelift has some beauties.

+1 on InterfaceLift. I use it a lot.

As far as I'm aware, the resolution on the device is 1280X800. Downloading and utilizing wallpapers at that size as well as others, seems to make no difference. I am still forced the crop the image so that the portrait and landscape images can be composed.

If by resolution you meant download a wallpaper of very high resolution after which the cropped area still remains sharp, I'll pass on that.

I want a landscape wallpaper in its entirety. Not a cropped part of it. As such anything I do download is always some abstract pattern which repeats itself and ultimately has no bearing on the final image.

I've used that multi-picture live wallpaper app before, but I hate it.

My WiFi Xoom is still on HC 3.2 but the US WiFi versions have begun to receive the official ICS via OTA a few days ago. According to Motorola the update will rollout to European versions within the coming weeks - no question of it imho. However, Motorola have not been exactly quick of the mark when it comes to looking after their European customers; they seem to favour their American bretherens. So, when we will really get ICS is anyones guess. Good tablet though!

Iam in the UK and was to impatient to wait so I unlocked my xoom and installed the US rom from moto dev. I then got a notification straight away and after a few updates Iam now running ICS without any problems :)
Not sure on the state of the sd card though as I never used to use it... I hardly touch the 32gb I already have. Ill check it out though and post back and let you know
