Root i just rooted using droidmod...

So someone walked me step by step to root my phone but i dont see what is so special about this. i did research this before i did it but i dont know where to get anything to upgrade my phone such as fonts or other things. can u please help me!!

Hey, welcome to the world of "root". Yeah, I suppose you would look at that like there is nothing special. If you use the Droidmod uploader...you will get a 2.0.1 fairly plain looking rom...this is just a base rom that you can theme...but looks aside, you can do things like overclock your processor. I am usually running at 1.2GHz (stock is 550MHz). My phone is more than twice as fast as a stock phone. You really have to start reading posts on various roms, apps, etc. to get an idea of all you can do.

Here is what I'm currently running. Ultimate ROM 3.7 @ 1.2GHz. Most ROMS are available on All Droid Forums so you have to bounce over there to download...but come back! This is a better forum! :D

Now that you've rooted, have you installed a custom ROM?

That's where all the magic is...

He said he's got the Droidmod rom and if you have used it (I just tried it today)...it's pretty plain jane looking and if you didn't know all you could do, it might not seem like much. I wish I could put something in writing that emphasied just how much better a rooted droid is.

Hey...Multi-touch browser and gallery...done! That's a start :D

such as? im not to sure my buddy walked me thru it then he had to leave so now im rooted but LOST!!!!

I HATE to do this to you...but I can't type everything out that you need to do. Luckily...I can point you toward some good info. Follow this guide and you will end up with a solid, fast, good-looking rom. After you get there...you'll start to understand. I seriously flash several roms every day to test out new features and see what the REAL android tems is working on. The developers on this forum and others are incredible...fast updates and new capabilities added daily. I can't wait to see where we are in 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, etc...:D

Just remember that the stock Droid was good...now it will get MUCH better! Follow directions carefully and READ...really try to learn what you are doing to your phone cause KNOWING...really comes in handy ;)

Gotcha. I haven't used droidmod anything (call me a fanboy of Pete I guess ;))

The main reason that I rooted was to enable wifi tethering which, if you're not familiar with it, allows you to share the droid's internet connection to other computers through wifi.

I've been a big fan of the Bugless Beast roms, they change the look of the interface, including a black notification bar and can include a "smoked glass" theme, enabling transparencies and generally cleaning up the look of the phone.

In addition, you get two additional home screens with most of these roms.

You can change the boot animation from the stock droid to some pretty sweet stuff, or you can make your own if you are so inclined. Check this one out:

If you know what overclocking is, then you might be impressed with the fact that we can run our phones at over twice the rated clock speed.

----Didn't Joe make a thread about all the things you can do with root, something to the effect of "What I've done with my droid now that it's rooted" I'll have to find that for you.

There's a lot more....I'm sure others will fill in the gaps

im already rooted with droimod 1.0

Then go to droidmod's website and download the kernels (to achieve different clock speeds).

Let me google that for you

Follow instructions on installing kernels and that will get you going faster...then you just customize and read the post here in the "root" section. Just see what people are chatting about and feel free to ask specific questions inside the posts. The people here should be willing to help :D

I was (still am) a Pete fan! His stuff is great but I have been testing roms lately and seeing what else is out there. Droidmod 1.0 is okay...good, stable, decent looking...but it is 2.0.1 and I have moved on to 2.1 for most use. Many dev's are adding nice apps into their builds, different kernels, looks, etc.

Having said that...Pete just released Bugless Beast 2.1 rom v0.5. I just d'loaded it and can't wait to stop typing so I can check it out...lots of changes since 1.0 (the last time I used it). Ultimate Rom v3.7 is great too! I had version 2.5.2 and that was cool but not complete. Blackdroid updated several times and the roms were not really functional but he refined it and 3.7 is a personal favorite!
