This is a really bad idea

I believe political correctness came about because some people just can't be polite and keep their intolerant thoughts to themselves.

Sometime you must mandate a little civility in society, I for one do not care to hear the irrational thoughts of some racist KKK member or the darkness the lurks in the depths of a Dick Cheney.

Political correctness is a nice way of saying I have no factual evidence to refute what the other party is saying, therefore be nice to me, you are hurting my feelings. Boo freaking hoo.

You appear to be the anti-your-signature!

"It is better to be silent and thought a fool than speak up and remove all doubt."

When you make statements like that you assume limited intellect, and in doing so, you tip your hand by showing your arrogance and presumptiveness. I disagree with all things PC as it makes stating the most obviously things wrong because it makes someone feel uncomfortable. Hearing the truth normally does.

Sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. I am just a comedian and saw an opportunity for humor! :D

No discomfort, I enjoy the debate. Just found this subforum last night. Very difficult to have an intelligent conversation where I live so I'm glad I found this place. I am curious about the mandating sevility comment though. Sure, you candidates just go around like the examples you stated and spew hatred I agree. But there has to be a forum for all of it. The first amendment was created to protect all speach, not just polite speach. Polite speach needs no protection. To do any more regulating is a slippery slope and could become a form of thought police. Nobody should want that.

Is it politically correct to say you can't have an intelligent conversation with people where you live? Would you publish that thought in the local newspaper or would you politically keep your mouth shut?

No, it isn't PC to make a statement like that. However, it doesn't make it any less true. Speaking here, or anywhere doesn't change my opinion, regardless of who or who all hears it. As far as PC definitions being party dependent, yes, it dies make a difference, sadly. That is exactly what makes the premise of political correctness so dangerous. Again, just my opinion.

And why is it politically incorrect for republicans(me by the way) to bash Palin?

Libertarian myself, but bashing Palin if you are a Republican is wrong because you are an independent thinker and not towing the party line. I think it was Washington that said the party system would destroy the county. But to your point, we are in complete agreement. Still, I'd rather look at Palin than McCain or Obama. ;)

I for one think the president needs a well rounded education because of todays complex world.

Oh I am sorry did you mean "look at" as in she is more sexy? :D

Research the origins of political correctness. You may be suprised. It was first used as a basic "shut up" tactic to silence opposition to an ideal, villify, and propagandize people. It was completely contrary to anything promoting liberty or freedom of speech in any sense of the two. Like all things though, it has evolved into an accepted system of thought here in the United States.

But thats the beauty of America... free speech. It is a persons RIGHT to voice their beliefs, no matter how much you DONT like it. A person from the KKK could easily say the same thing about your "equality" beliefs. But it is your CHOICE to agree or disagree.

Obviously there is a limit to free speech, i.e. screaming fire in a crowded theater, where to we draw the line. If there is no line there is no civility in society. If there is no civility there is down right anarchy. Maybe you are fine with that, I am not.

Even if there is a revolution it needs to be civil, organized anarchy is OK.

Only speech that is intended to physically hurt people, or cause other irrevocable harm to another person... otherwise it is still free speech.
