Help Life after CL14

Finally flashed the CL14 update earlier in the week. Had no issues at all updating. Now...........

I had my first lock up yesterday. Was scrolling my Contact List going to the M's. For some reason the M's would not display. It was as if the whole contact list was messed up. At first I thought they were gone but then saw the phone would simply not let me scroll the whole list. I turned the phone off/on and all was normal again.

Next I pulled my phone off the AC charger. Then wham...full lockup. First time I've had to pull the battery on my moment since I bought it the day after Thanksgiving.

Another issue I'm seeing now is that sometimes when I push the Red(hangup) button to wake the screen it doesn't wake. I have to hit it longer or multiple times to get the screen to wake. Never had this issue before CL14.

Feel free to add to list of post CL14 issues.

WOW after I posted this I found more issues. I thought I'd check an email issue we've all been seeing. Wanted to check to see if we could delete emails from Trash once the messages had been deleted. For some reason I couldn't receive any emails on the Moment. It was working fine yesterday. I have two accts setup(not including Gmail) and all the settings were fine. I could see the emails sitting in the account mail boxes but for some reason the Moment would not see them.
I moved on to a few other things. I tried turning on Bluetooth. I would click on the BT button but nothing seemed to happen. I tried and tried and tried to no avail. I then went to Quick Settings and attempted to turn BT on. Nothing. Ok now what's going on. So I turned the phone off/on again and "Voila" The phone came on with BT enabled and now the email is working.
Quirky things happening now after the CL14 update.

Oh and btw it looks like the email Trash issue has been fixed. After I viewed the two test messages I sent to the two accounts on my Moment and deleted them, I was able to delete them from Trash. They seem to be gone now. So at least that issue was fixed.

The life and times of a work-in-progress device... at this point, I still don't think it's 100% user friendly device. I use it because I like it, but most people whom I tell my problems too look at me and say things like, 'Why do you still use that piece of crap then?". I use this 'piece of crap' because I like it. It DOES have issues, but nothing so bad as to make me want to part ways with it. This is light years above a Nextel i850, and when I bring that up, most of these said people DO agree that it's a better phone, aside from my father; he got this phone as well after he saw me having fun with it, and now he's still contemplating trading it back in for HIS old i850. His idea of 'working' technology is that it's 100% flawless; I.E. he throws things away, regardless of quality, if they don't do what his older version of said thing did.

since the upgrade i've noticed my phone is constantly changing between evdo & 1x and it bugs the crap outta me. Also randomly my phone wont let me get to the notification bar. my screen will start to blink so i end up locking and unlocking it. then if I hit the notification bar the screen goes completely blank. it only happens for like a minute at a time and it's only happend twice in the past week, but it's annoying

I had the i850, as well as the i830 and the i930. Then I went to the Blackberry Curve i8350. I've been using my employers phone for all my calls (for the last 10 years) and in November when the Moment came out I decided to get my own cell phone. My first personal cell phone since 1999. This is hands down, head and shoulders above any smart phone that Nextel has ever offered, including the Blackberry and I've had every one of them.

dude that's not really saying much. nextel has never had a good smartphone in it's line up. I use to like the i930, but it was only because it was the first smartphone I had used at the time. I also never saw the big deal with blackberries, I guess they're ok

I think a lot of ppl confuse their love of the phone with their actual love for the android os itself

This, or they've been using something for so long, that they've come to think that some of it's key features are the best, and only thing like it in the world. Sure there are a few things a black berry can do that ours can't, but the rest of the things our phones do vastly outnumber the things we can't do. I'd rather have this phone over my old i850 any day of the minute. (I'll leave to ponder if this last phrase makes any sense. Mind boggler. ;D)

But dude, I was responding to Thefoodman52 who was talking about his experience with Nextel phones.

EDIT: :D

Post cl14 my Moment has slowed down, keep losing data connection, can't handle having multiple apps open very well, won't always let me pull down the notification bar, and sometimes just goes crazy with the system force close makes me reboot.

I'd rather suffer with the bad battery life before cl14 then this crap, plus it takes away from showing up someone with a iphone when your android phone doesn't wanna work.

yeah, and I was responding to your response... is this not how threads work? your point to him was the moment was head and shoulders ahead of anything nextel could offer. I responded with a, while that is true, it doesn't say much because nextel phones suck to begin with. should that be cleared up more? does this satisfy you? or should I have asked if it was ok before I gave my two cents? ;)

A little sensitive are we? I think everyone knows that the words smartphone an Nextel can't really coexist, with the exception of the Blackberry which has been a business smartphone "staple" for 10 years. I work for a company where 70 people have to communicate via PTT and Nextel is a necessary evil. All I was doing was trying to relate to Foodman and your "2 cents" kinda took it in a direction that I didn't understand.

really, cuz I basically said the same thing you said but also stated that comparing the moment to any smartphone on nextel is kind of degrading to the moment... maybe read over it one more time to fully comprehend it ... not really trying to be a douche, and maybe i am too sensitive, but it sure seems like you were talking sideways about my post. which was annoying when nothing negative was said toward you in the first place.

Post update...

  • GPS didn't work at all for 2 days after the update then all of a sudden started to work
  • BT will now only connect manually
  • When I push the END button from the home screen it no longer blacks out...It stays awake for a random amount of time before going to sleep.
  • Screen remains blacked out on incoming calls
I'm not very impressed with their update...

I was a solid Zefie user from the beginning but after one of his later updates the phone was flaky. I flashed several times bt it didn't help. I bit the bullet and flashed the Sprint update and I have to say I am more than impressed. As I type this I am at 49 hours and still have 40% left on the battery with moderate use and, everything works as it should. Maybe try to flash again. There are times that you may have to flash multiple times to get things to work right.

worked extremely well on my Moment. Im currently running joeykim's 1.5 kernel and it is running just fine also. Swithced over to the modified kernel to gain persistent root so I could get rid of stock programs I'll never use.

I'm also running the TeleNav version of Sprint's Navigator and find it to be much better and use less resources than the Sprint app.

Before the update:
1) My GPS was HORRIBLE! I started turning on my Wi-Fi before I was going to use any GPS apps (hardly ever) and that made a HUGE difference with GPS based programs locating me. This "work-around" worked just fine for me.
2) Keyboard DEFINITELY lagged..
3) Battery life was pretty crappy but I could live with it. (it would be at 15% when I plugged in after 1 day of decently heavy usage.
4) Touch screen response was pretty slow
5) Besides these issues, the phone was pretty "solid" and worked pretty well.

After the update:
1) My AGPS locates me MUCH faster now. I don't have to turn my Wi-Fi on anymore, but sometimes it is not as accurate of a locate as when I would tur my Wi-Fi on. Overall, I guess I am happy with this fix.
2) VERY happy with the fix of the keyboard lag! Totally gone!
3) VERY happy with the new battery life. I can use my phone all day and my battery shows hardly any decrease. (BTW, the actual battery percentage is now gone under the "settings/ about phone, etc" screen. I guess I have to download a battery meter app from the Market now?
4) Touch screen response is much better, and the phone does feel snappier.
5) So why am I not so happy then?
a) I use Bluetooth a LOT, and I am now having problems connecting the phone to my truck's hands free or my Samsung earbud about 75% of the time now. I don't know WTH this update did to my BT, but the "connection" process SUCKS now! Definitely an issue. I have to go into the BT settings and "make phone discoverable" about 3 out of 5 times that I turn on my truck or turn on my earbud.
b) The phone has frozen up on me THRE times since I updated 3 days ago! First time, I was on a call and needed the dialpad, so I took the phone away from my face and nothing... Nothing at all would come up on the screen after several (patient) attempts..
Second time, it would not connect a call. I tried to hang it up, and it would not hang up either. Just froze. I had to take the battery out..

I never had these kinds of "freezes" before CL14.
If I had to say, I would say that the benefits were worth it, but the major difference is that previous to CL14, I never wanted to throw my phone at the wall. The 2 issues I mentioned above have made me want to do that a few times now.
I'd call that a toss-up then I guess. I just need to focus on the positive and really enjoy my great battery life, and fast keyboard, and fast GPS lock I guess..

I think some of you got bad phones or are doing/downloading some bad stuff to your phones. I was kinda scared to buy my moment after reading all the BS about it but i tell you what I got 1 great phone that does everything i need it to. I guess with sprint phones its just a gamble on what box you pick. CL14 is running great on my phone and to be honest imy phone was working just as great before I even updated it to my phone.
