Is SMS texting apps like free? I know it uses the internet connection. (I have 4G LTE) But verizon changed their messaging plan. I had Verizon to Verizon unlimited text and Verizon to other carriers for $10. But now they changed the plan its 1000 texts flat. (Means it doesn't matter if its verizon or any other carrier) so i didn't get the messaging plan. But I wanted to know if those SMS apps use my texts. Because I have to pay .20 each. I used textPlus but its too laggy and most of the time it crashes. If SMS app uses my messages, can u tell me any other texting apps that i could keep my phone number? I really need one. Thanks.....

SMS stands for "Short Message Service", all text messages are SMS messages. So any SMS app will use your text messages, they are essentially just different versions of the default messaging app. There are however apps that allow you to send SMS messages over the internet for free. I don't use them so i can't recommend one really. They also generally don't let you keep your number either.

You could check out Google Voice though, which does essentially what you want, but it requires a new number. You get to choose your phone number though
