Sprint changing Family Plan discount again

Pretty sure this hasn't been posted here yet.

Just saw this thread at slickdeals.net this morning:
SPRINT Changing T&C again (Feb2012) - Get out of Contract ETF free - Slickdeals.net?

Basically, Sprint is changing the Unlimited Family Plan from $129.99 for the 1st line and $0.00 for the 2nd to $110 for the 1st and $19.99 for the second. Any discount you have will apply only to the 1st line. For example, I get a 23% discount through my employer. Currently, $129.99-23%=$100.09/mo. Starting in February, that will be $110-23%=$84.70+$19.99=$104.69/mo. So, I will be paying an extra $4.60/mo (not including what I'm sure will be slightly more in taxes/fees based off of the new rate).

Here's a scan of an internal document sent to Sprint Reps (link available in above thread):

The only notice anyone's gotten of this is on paper statements or on the pdf version of the bill available online. No email, no mail, no notice in the Message Center in my account. Trying to sneak this in, Sprint?

Currently, I can't even pull up a pdf version of my bill to see this notification, which is pissing me off. My contract's up in May, but I haven't decided just what to do yet.

My wife terminated her prior Sprint contract early so she could go from the buggy Samsung Epic 4G to the iPhone4S. I added her under my contract (on a 450 family plan) since my work gives an extra 10 percent discount compare to hers.

I already had to cancel my Sprint Insurance due to Sprint surcharges jumping by $2 each month.

Thanks for the heads up.

Agreed. If they keep inching closer to Verizon's pricepoint, I might as well have Verizon.

They are already within a few bucks of each other price wise, but AT&T and Verizon completely crush you with data fees that it freaking sucks all to hell.

With this change I was considering AT&T but their data fees are so damn bad that they just aren't viable for me.

Already switched dude.... And while there is no unlimited data, and they are expensive, VZW is a whole lot better. Between their glut of awesome phone choices, and the fact that (at least for me) they have a working lte network, the choice was made simple. I was lucky to get in when they were doubling data so the hurt was not quite so much....lol.

I have stayed with Sprint because of there unlimited data plan. I pay the extra $30 a month for tethering, but now that it is now capped at 5gb, big Red is looking more and more attractive. At least with Verizon, I will have great coverage. I will have to drop my insurance with Sprint to compensate for this price hike. Time to do some number crunching to find the best deal outside of Sprints service.

Indeed. This network vision had better be spectacular, or else they might lose this customer of 7 years =/

Does anyone know how this will effect lines 3-5? If they are lowering the first line and charge 19.99 for the second line will that include lines 3-5 or will you still have to pay an additonal 19.99 for those lines? I ask because I am going to have to add a third line soon and that would actually work out great if that included the extra lines.

Also reading this made me check my bill and I noticed that my employer discount went from 15% to 16%.

This only affects how lines 1 and 2 are charged, lines 3 and up won't be affected.

so, worst case scenario, this will increase the bill 5 or 6 bucks?... regardless if you have 2 lines or 5. my bill last month was 156.xx for 3 lines (tax and fees included)... so, $161 for three lines still cant be beat.

That's damn hard to beat. Any other carrier would prob run you close to $200 for the same services.

I've been with Sprint for the last 5 1/2 years. It is not exactly a secret these days that the service isn't that great, but I'm willing to stick it out. I'm probably one of the minority folks actually curious to see how Network Vision will pan out. I like what they are offering, and I personally like Sprint being the underdog in the fight against VZW and AT&T. Unfortunately for the customers (ourselves), we have to deal with a few rate spikes along the way so that they can compete with these big dog companies.

For five lines, I am paying $264 per month. That includes insurance on two phones and my 15% government discount. I am still a pretty happy camper. I have a friend who works for Verizon who has been trying to get me to switch and no matter how she works the numbers, she can't even come close for five lines.

Good grief. 5 lines is a hell of a lot lol.

Does anyone know the last day that we'll be able to get out of our contracts because of this change? I may get a Galaxy Note on AT&T sans voice.

I was told by a retentions rep that you have 45 days from the date of your bill that the change actually goes into effect. So for me my bill closes on the 9th of Feb. So the new rate takes effect on the 10th, so its 45 days from Feb 10th for me to cancel ETF free.

So I'm just looking at my phone bill showing the new 110 for the shared plan and 19.99 for lines 2-5. If that's the case then anyone who has more than 2 lines is actually saving $20. I only have 2 right now so I'm just assuming.

Edit:

So I have never had more than 2 line so I always thought the $19.99 was for lines 3-5 as written not $19.99 for "each individual line 3-5"

So just ignore what I though :(

They do need to add "per line" to that

It is actually the same price if you don't have a corporate discount. But if you have a discount than you are actually going to be paying more, depending on how much your percentage off is.

So will I be able to get out of my contract and go month to month or will we have to leave Sprint? I don't wanna upset my lady.

Yes, you can get out of your contract with out the ETF, BUT, you will have to cancel your line or lines and leave sprint. But you actually have the option to cancel only the lines you want and not all. So I have 4 lines but I want only 1 canceled. they are canceling only that line and the others are still active but still on contract though.
