Is there a weather app that doesn't run constantly in the background?

I really like the Weather Channel App and Weatherbug, but they both constantly start themselves and run in the background no matter what my settings are. I don't need my phone to update weather in the background as I don't check it that often. I just want something that I can open, check the weather and CLOSE....really close.

Is there a decent Weather App that will let me close it and not run on its own? Seems to me that its a common problem with apps, that many devs don't properly shut them down or force them to run unnecessarily.

I have Weatherbug Elite, and I just have a shortcut to the actual app itself (not the widget), and AFAIK it only updates when I actually click the app and view the weather.

So if you use the shortcut icon and not the widget icon on your home screen to look up weather, weather bug will never open unless you hit the shortcut icon?

So if this is true WB should never show up in my "advanced task killer" correct unless I open it??

Correct, but you really don't need a task killer at all... Android is designed to handle background apps efficiently.

Well I answered my own question, I removed the WB widget icon from my home screen and replaced it with the WB short cut icon and the dam thing still shows up in my ATK running...I don't get it, I would have thought if you don't have the widget icon on a screen that it would never run, kind of looks like WB will run if its on your phone no matter what.

It may be running, but you can set it so that it doesn't refresh for 6 hours, so it essentially does nothing all day. Your battery life is fine. You don't need to kill every damn task.

Is it actually running or is it just open? It might be asleep. What does it show for this program in "Spare Parts". My phone has a lot of programs "open" but not using resources, therefor, they are not a problem.

Good point
How do I check in spare parts to see what its doing?

So you saying something can show up in ATK and not be using any battery or resource's?
I thought anything that showed up was running.
