Help How do I stop e-mails being deleted from my phone?

Whenever my e-mail downloads on to my PC, it removes it from my phone.

Any idea how to keep downloaded e-mails on your phone without them automatically being deleted by the server?

Seems like an odd feature.

Thanks.

Your email on your PC must be configured using POP mail. POP causes your PC to remove mail from the server. If you want to keep your mail on the server try using IMAP instead of POP

Is there not a way to download the emails to my phone so it just 'copies' it from the server rather than simply acting as a 'viewer'?

Still seems odd that my phone doesn't store the e-mails.

Yes, you have to configure your phone to use IMAP instead of POP. IMAP allows you to COPY emails from the server instead of moving emails. Do you know how to do that? What kind of mail server are you connecting to?

This seems to be a change in Android Jellybean.

I've got two Galaxy 3 in the house, one that's upgraded to 4.1.1 and one that's running 4.0.4. Each is using the same pop3 email server and the accounts are configured identically.

Both phones will pick up new emails from the pop3 server.

If the email is then removed from the pop3 server, the phone running 4.1 will also remove the email from the phone. The phone running 4.0 will leave the email on the phone. I couldn't find any setting that changed this.

My workaround is to configure outlook to leave all emails on the server for ten days. I prefered the functionality in 4.0, but I'm sure there are others who prefer the 4.1 functionality. I wish this were configurable.
