Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Well I had a busy night. Got a call at 2:30, my youngest had a seizure, took him to the doctor and was diagnosed with pneumonia. Seizure was due to rapid spike in fever, not unusual. Poor guy needed a massive shot of antibiotics, but he is doing better, even played a little before bed, albeit slower than usual.
Yikes! Scary stuff. Glad he's getting better.

But since I had got home early, I had some extra time, so with some help from jbdan (Thanks!) I flashed my first rom, the stock 4.0.4 rom. I will give you my impressions tomorrow.

Wow Anti glad all is well what a scare. Hope he feels better soon.

And what a way to delve into a custom ROM straight up with .4 :D Look forward to hearing your time with it. Really curious about your signal as I know it's not great at work. Keeps us apprised!

Thank you, I just found out some friends of mine lost their son nine hours after birth. There were complications at birth and they were thankful to have had nine hours with him, and that he had nine hours to be held by mommy and daddy. When I found out I immediately went and gave my sleeping 4 year old a kiss and a hug. That really hit me hard. I can't imagine that. I can't imagine not being bitter for only having nine hours. I am thankful for every minute for my son. I don't know, knowing how I feel now about him, I guess I'd take nine hours over none. I don't know. Just hit me hard, can't stand little ones not making it.

That hits most if not all of us hard. This life is so precious. I'm about to become a Daddy, but I've lost many "very close to me" people in my life. Both tragically and suddenly. Knowing what I believe comforts me, but doesn't make it any less painful. Spend every moment like it's the last, and always convey the love to those around and close to you as often as possible, we never know. Thx for sharing pupkact ;)

Have you tried going into your VZW account online and activating it? Kind of sounds like it just needs to be activated, or you need a new SIM. Don't think it's too jacked yet.

Braved the waters and flashed 4.0.4 radios last night. No difference. No harm, no foul. Hopefully these 4.0.4 ROMs will come out soon...these latest kernels I've tried have been getting worse instead of better. I think lean 1.6 was the best I've had. 1.9 isn't bad, but I don't think it's as good as 1.6 was. Also, having a strange issue of unplugging and the first 10% of battery drops very quickly...within an hour and only sending a text or two with about 5 minutes of screen on time, and the next bit doesn't seem to drop as fast.

Sorry to hear that. Always hits home when I hear that. One of my brothers passed on within a day after birth. Was med-flighted to a hospital in another city shortly after birth so my parents didn't get much time with him at all. I was only 4 at the time but remember a little about that day. He's in a better place and I'll get to meet him one day though, and if he had made it, who knows if I would have the brother that I do have today...far as I know, parents only wanted 2.

Wow, always scary when that happens! Happened to my neice a year or so ago, whole family panicked. Glad your little one is doing better!

Yeah he is feeling pretty bad today, in a report from my wife, has another doctor appt at 1 today, but probably going to need more antibiotics.

So my report on 4.0.4... Identical to you. No signal at my desk, speed test is about average outside where I get LTE, and inside where I get a whopping 100 kbps down . Things do seem a little snappier navigating through menus, but it was already so good IMO.They did fix the Android OS battery reporting, but we all knew that. Nothing else stands out. But on the bright side, NOTHING stands out on the negative, anyone who is on the stock rom, you can flash this with no worries of a change in experience IMO.

Thanks for the updates guys. I guess I'm one of the few people that have a stock/unrooted/unflashed Nexus so I am at the mercy of Google and Verizon to get updates OTA. I heard about 4.0.3 (never saw it) and now 4.0.4. I know it takes time to test updates but I thought they would be released faster than this? I have several minor problems that are nuisance-based and I'm not worried about them.... it's more the one-way audio issue that I'm hoping *fingers crossed* will be fixed very soon in an OTA update. It is a phone after all, and I'mn tired of telling people "if you hear a crackle and my voice is gone, please call me right back".

I'm with you. I am patiently waiting to see what the final OTA (.3? .4? .5?) will do to address this issue. If it doesn't make a difference, I think I will raise holy hell at a VZW store to replace this phone with something that actually works as a phone (awesome screen, bloatware-free, vanilla UI and ICS be damned!)

So has it only done this once? Since you installed 4.0.4, lean kernel, both?

I bet you were never charged to 100% although it told you you were. New kernel flashes, the phone once reaching 100% will try to calibrate batt stats. This is normal. It is a safety feature so batteries won't overcharge. All my past Moto and HTC phones had it.

Try a bump charge next time or catch it when it nears 99% wait for it to peak at 100% and pull off charger. Or charge it while it is off, when it says "full", pull off charger and put back on for 10 minutes.

I'm still running AOKP M3 and I flashed Lean 1.9 on Saturday I believe. Every day I take it off the charger, that first 10% goes by in a hurry, even when I don't touch it. I only flashed 4.0.4 radios only last night. The problem I'm talking about has been occurring for several days if not longer. It's not a big deal to me as it doesn't seem to affect overall battery life, just seems odd to have that first few percent dissappear so quick. I know it's either in the charging method that's like you said, a safety function to not overcharge, or in the battery stats.

Those who are trying the new .4 stuff including kernel....give it some time and at least a full charge cycle, you'll see improved battery life on your 2nd charge.

What is your PRL Anti? I was really hoping for 4G for you at work

Yeah, I tried a PRL refresh, got a different version (52642), but still no dice. Outside I was at -96 dBm with 3 bars this morning when I checked it. It will hold it as long as I walk along the windows from outside, but as soon as I make the turn to my desk, it loses it, same as before. My Thunderbolt had an extremely unstable connection at my desk, and so does the guy who has one now that sits at the window. I really don't think it's the phone's fault, I really think the building was designed with passive signal blocking. Oh well.

Mine does it too as I'm not going to sit and watch my phone charge exactly to 100% lol

However, when I'm on my PC and the phone is charging right next to me I get the chance to see it charge to 100% then 10 minutes later look at it and it's at 98% still on the charger . I've caught it at 100% a few times (trying and not) and then I don't get that initial quick drop like you're saying.

Not a big deal at all I agree was just pointing out what you're probably experiencing.

Dang! Well enjoy .4, although I'm starting to miss all my AOKP features and will flash back soon, I see great potential in what's to come.

The only thing I don't understand is my CDMA signal is VERY strong, -83 dBm, 4 asu. Which is why I think I am going through a booster at work... Reason I think it is due to bandwidth problems, at 6am I am one of the first to get here, and speeds are decent, 500 kbps, but at 8am, 100kbps.

Get on the horn with y'alls IT guys/gals and see whats up? Maybe they can invest in one of these for you :p

Yep, sounds to me like you're going through a booster or something of the sort. Pretty sure my last workplace had one, got 5 bars in my office which was slap in the middle of a big manufacturing facility. Stepped outside and didn't have near the signal I had inside, haha.
