For anyone who is a total noob like me (just check out some of my previous frustrated posts), I just flashed/installed Adamz's latest Smoked Glass v5.0.1 and it is UNBELIEVABLY easy to install in absolutely packed with extras. You can check it out here:
AllDroid - View topic - [ROM.tgz] Smoked Glass v5.0.1 **BIG Update 02/27**
I'm going to post pictures shortly because he shows pictures of just about everything except the Droid font. But people, THIS is what development is about. All through the install from SPRecovery it gave me option after option of, "Do you want to do *this* or *that*?" and you'd just choose. It automatically performs a backup, wipe of data and/or cache if you want. I had just backed up so I actually chose neither of those...kept all my data/cache and didn't back up. Install was flawless! Everything is exactly where I left it! And considering the assclownery I had to go through before when trying to flash to the latest BB, this was a total CAKEWALK.
It was so easy I feel almost as tech-savvy as Nick Burns, the company's computer guy. MOOOOVE!!!

OK...just took a bunch of screenshots but they all exceed the size limit for the forum, so here's a link to my album on picasa...

Picasa Web Albums - 10554238339487568... - Drop Box

I didn't take pics of all 5 screens, but they're all there. And (thankfully) screen #3, the middle screen, is the default screen.

The main reason I'm hard over on posting these is because there were no pictures of Droid font. Had I to do it over, which I will, I would not have selected this option. Note how even in web pages, unless there is specific formatting, the font on reading stories is even in Droid font. The font is cool for labels and general apps on the Droid phone itself, but IMHO, not for reading stuff on the web or documents. I didn't prefer the blue colored fonts and notifications over the white so when I do it over, I'll do standard font and keep the white as well.

Not for nothing, and in the spirit of Joe's post earlier...but what's so ground breaking about this ROM? Yes, you can choose many options during your install...but you can for the DroidMod ROM as well.

It's nice that everything's there in the same place, but aside from the Droid font, pretty much everything else is the same as I'm running now with DM 1.0 and the Smoked Glass (Blue) theme applied via metamorph.

Am I missing something big?

Well, just reinstalled SGv5.0.1 except went with regular font (still white though...the blue font doesn't do it for me). Absolute total piece of cake to switch back and forth between the various ROMs. Live wallpapers are awesome but there is no live wallpaper of the flying-through-the-starfield effect. I have the water one set...that is crazy cool.

also the 2.1 launcher, while it is improved, is still very buggy and in the 15 minutes i was playing with it crashed at least 4 or 5 times.

I haven't had any problems whatsoever yet. In fact, I had to reflash my last version of SG because launcher kept FSing on me like clockwork any time I dragged an icon or set my droid in the dock.

this is an amazing rom. immediate switch from bb 1.1, dump the droid font though. its too large and will stretch out icon names and mess with widgets i.e. beautiful widgets, news and weather. i love the blue. and the including of the htc keyboard.

How do you get the HTC keyboard up? Went to settings > language & keyboard and unchecked android keyboard. The one that came up in its place was, IMHO, really annoying. Is this the HTC keyboard?

i have 4.5 so i dont need to wipe right? just restore with this rom?
I actually think that it will wipe automatically, but you later choose if you want to delete all data or not, as well as delete the cache or not.
I got nervous when it said "wiping" but actually did not delete data or my cache. Sure enough, when the ROM finished and I rebooted, all my data and icons and apps were right where I left them. This, for me, was an unbelievably easy install compared to what I've been dealing with.

he didnt install the actual keyboard with the rom. he just included it. so the apk is in the sd card. what i did was using ASTRO. i went to the root of my sd card and found the apk (NOT THE htc.ime file) u then install that file and it should work.

I may have been too quick in stating that I haven't had problems with launcher 2.1 -- I run the pattern lock as well as Contact Owner. Having had no problems whatsoever, I docked my droid into the "media center" dock like I do every night, and instead of the media center coming up, it was basically the homescreen...not long after that, launcher 2.1 crashed and had to force stop. Phone then crashed and auto-rebooted. Since then, whenever I open any app, when I go to close out of that app, the phone freezes trying to get to the default screen, then auto-reboots.
It's done this no less than 5 times in a row now.
I'm wondering if using the pattern unlock is screwing it up.
