Every now and then the touch screen will become unstable. Jumping all over the place, random screen presses which inadvertantly launch unwanted apps, and change settings. The only thing that breaks the phone free from this behavior is a reboot, or battery pull. Anyone have any ideas what the cause of this is? It is happening more frequently now (I'd say at least once a day).

Not sure if it will help or not, but have you tried recalibrating the screen? Instructions are below:
Recalibrating the G-sensor

We went through this with the OG Droid. For some, cleaning the screen with a soft screen cleaning clothe worked. For many others though, it was a sign that the digitizer (the part of the screen that picks up touch) was starting to go. Eventually it would just get worse until total the phone was unusable. The digitizer isn't terribly expensive but I had failed on installing it on my OG Droid. The micro ribbon cables didn't go back together for the screen itself. :(

there isn't a calibrator on the Droid 3! lol My phone has been doing this for a while too! Also after charging the phone fully my battery is dying within the hour. Just got off the phone with Verizon & they are sending me a replacement. Hope the new one works longer than 4 months!
