Battery percentage?

I have an unrooted, stock Rezound. I use the "battery notifier big text" app, and it keeps me up to date on my battery charge, no problem there.

The question is, why is it that after I charge it to 100%, whether from A/C when I go to bed, or in the car, it immediately goes down to 99%, then 98% within 10 or 15 minutes, even with data shut off, but it won't go below 96% for 5 hours when I have data shut off, still keeping my phone signal on, and just keep it in my pocket, rarely using it?

It seems to drop quickly, then go at a crawl. Just wondering why that is. Not really a problem necessarily, just doesn't make sense mathematically. If I had to guess, I would say it's the app that's wrong, or it's that 100% really doesn't mean that at all, it just says that, or something.

Why are people so obsessed with exact battery percentages, constantly checking the phone to see how much is left? In this day and age there is no reason for it. Unless you're out in the jungle some where with no outlet to plug your phone in, you shouldn't care.

In your car, at your work place, at home, there are power outlets every where. I see it mentioned that the rezound has poor battery life. From my experience with the rezound, it's pretty darn good.

If you need to make it thru the day without a charge, I see no reason why you can't. I posted a screen shot in this forum of my rezound showing a day and a half usage (moderate) and still with over 50% left. Data on, push email, all that stuff.

The point is this. Plan accordingly and you will have no problems. And I do not believe in bump charging. When I had the Dinc (which in my opinion had horrible battery life), I tried bump charging a few times. It was too much effort for too little in return.

People are not necessarily obsessed with it, but there are people in professions where they are outside all day with no access to an outlet and can't keep running to their car every time they need a charge and others where it's a necessity for their business to always have a charged phone because it can mean losing business if their phone dies.

Bump charging may be too troublesome for you, but it has been shown to help, so since it doesn't seem to hurt, I'll keep doing it.

If you read the article that was linked above you would know bump charging is harmful to your battery. Regardless if you're near a charger, things can be utilized to extend your off-charge time. Keeping the phone on 3G only mode is only one example of saving battery life. There are countless other settings to conserve battery life.

I did read it, I was the one who posted the link. I came away with a somewhat different opinion than you did because I only bump charge when initially conditioning my batteries and not on a repeated basis. Different opinions help people make decisions. Everyone needs to make up their own minds about it and that's what this information is for. I thought he did a pretty good job of stating the benefits and drawbacks.

There have been two times that I've gone 5 hours and only gone from 100% to 96% by keeping data turned off, keeping my phone signal active, and rarely using it. Today, I was out in an area a bit off the beaten path (no 4G), but still had a phone signal. I didn't charge it for 7 hours, did some texting, took some pictures, but never turned data on. I ended up at 80% after all of that, on the standard battery. That seems very acceptable to me.

I really keep waffling between the extended and stock battery, because the extended is nice because when I do need to use it, I can and it lasts so long, completely worry free. However, it has drawbacks. It takes a long time to charge, by my estimates, about 6 hours if it's totally drained, but I don't let it do that. However, if I let myself use 40% of it, it's not going to charge just commuting around town, unless I drive for a couple hours without stopping, same with being at home, it charges slowly. Also, it's a bit cumbersome, I haven't measured the difference, but it adds a lot of bulk, and I love the sleek form factor of the phone with the stock battery in it, sometimes it's easier to hold and use, and seems a bit easier to operate the power button, both from pushing it from the front AND back.

I suppose I will just keep the extended battery (2750 mah) on hand for longer days when I know I will need it. I am still trying to learn what "good battery life for an LTE phone" is. I really don't like the extra bulk on a day to day basis, and I wouldn't have gotten the Maxx even if it had been available when I got my Rezound last month, due to the UI, permanently mounted battery, and black death screens I've heard about with Motorola. For me to get another one of their phones, they are going to have WOW me like they did with the OG Droid, the last Motorola I was really impressed with.

Really, I'm a control freak. If I could put a magic spell on my phone to keep it at 100% constantly, I would. If there were a battery that lasted a week, I'd still charge it daily. I guess I have a constant thought in the back of my mind like "What if my car breaks down, and car chargers don't work due to electrical failure?" [been there a decade ago], "What if there is some terrible thing that happens of unexpected need and I am about out of power with no way to charge?" type of thing. Same reason I keep 2 sets of chains in my car all winter, extra stuff of all kinds, always being prepared, and I'm not even an ex boy scout! I admit, I have CFD (Control Freak Disease).

Welcome to the slightly OCD club. 80% after 7 hours sounds like you're learning well and doing something right. Keeping the extended battery charged up and with you if you need it is a good plan if you don't like using it all of the time. You could also keep one or two extra standard batteries charged up and with you and not have to carry around the extra back for the extended battery. I have an extra extended battery and also three 5000mAh external batteries I keep charged up for all of our family's phones and tablets in case of one of those power outages we get occasionally from an ice storm. After being caught once, I also like to be prepared.

My extended battery charges up from full discharge to full charge in 4 hours, using the Verizon 1Amp charger. I also have a 1Amp car charger that isn't much slower.

Can't get my brain wrapped around the extended battery. That's the problem with HTC. It's either stock or a whale. If I had to have the "brick" to get thru the day, I would sell the Rezound and get the Maxx.

I've gotten used to the extended battery, because I don't have to obsess over the percentage as long as I use it normally. I won't be able to kill it unless I try to intentionally. When I uncheck the "enable always on data" box, thus allowing my phone to let the radios rest most of the time, the extended battery lasts about as long as the stock battery on my retired OG Droid, which was really awesome for sure! I already dumped power management apps and keep data on, keep background data on, etc, so I don't miss out on anything going on.

I am even considering dumping my battery percentage app, to ease my mind a bit, so I don't constantly obsess about it. Funny how I used to WANT the ability to see the exact percentage, like ios has on their devices, now I'm not wanting it.....


Yes this thread is a bit old, but it's my stinkin' thread and I can add to it if I want!
