Nothing came up that has helped me in my search to fix this problem.

I deal with word, excel sheets etc through email. I have never had a problem with this in the 11 months of owning this phone until today.

I go to open an email with a word attachment and when I open the email it it says it's an unsupported file type. I pulled sd card and battery after shutting off my phone. Dled new free versions of office apps, no luck anywhere.

I've ben using quick office btw which came with the phone.

My phone software randomly changing? Odd...I know you're just throwing stuff out there but, something is up obviously.

I've done some trouble shooting:
No the sender did not change the program being used which is microsoft office.
No I did not change anything on my phone, still using quickoffice.
The only thing that did change which should have absolutely nothing to do with it...

I bought microsoft office 2010 with 3keys available. All 3 have been used up. I recently bought a new laptop and switched/canceled office that was on my old laptop and activated it on my new laptop. I couldn't see this being a possibliity but, could having office on my old laptop somehow be linked to my phone? When I switched laptops it canceled out on my phone too because it was no longer linked to my old laptop?

Are you using quick office on your phone or Microsoft office?
Have you recently updated the app? If you updated the app try reverting back to the older version and see if that helps. Heck try an older version anyhow and Sewer if it helps. Software on your phone doesn't randomly change. It requires user input unless you selected automatic updates. Or goggles magic kill button to remove harmful apps.

Quick office on my phone.

Thats why I'm so confused. Things like this dont work one day and not the other. I do have automatic updates selected and ive looked to see if there was an older version to revert back to. Maybe im checking wrong and you could help but when I look in the market, all that comes up is a 7dat free trial and the version you have to pay for.

I'm sure the automatic upfate may be the issue. Stupid question? How do I get the old once back?

You can't get the older version through the market. You will have to search with google. I did a quick search and found an old one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654666 if you want newer than that you will have to look around.

Thank you for the quick search. It's no wonder I couldn't find it on the market. Wasn't really aware of searching for apps to DL from anywhere "but" the market just for safety reasons.

So I reverted back and that is not the issue either. Here is the thing, even when I open the email from my laptop, the word icon is a "?" but still allows me to choose to download/remove which then allows me to open it with microsoft word. On my phone, I have no option to click it or anything, its just blank and that's that.

Could it be that his version of microsoft word is "suddenly" out of date, it's 2007 version.

Whaaaaat the heeeeeeck lol

At the moment I have two different files from this person saved. File.doc and file.xlsx, they both are saved in a folder with their extensions still attached and can be opened with no problems.

The new file being sent that I can't open also has.doc attached but I can't click it, dl it, open it...nothing. Its just a light grey and says unsupportted file type.

Upload it to google docs then you can view it on your phone.
