Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

Spent most of my time in the Piedmont area - if they have a second choice of BBQ there, I didn't find it. When I asked, folks just told me - We don't do Texas-style here! :)

In any case, I did love the pulled pork/vinegar bbq they had - served over a bed of slaw, accompanied with iced tea - sweetened to give you a health issue.

Wish I'd tried the variant.

I used to live in Hickory, NC, and while I didn't partake in any bbq eating, that is the case. Eastern Carolina has more of a traditional bbq sauce while western is vinegar based.

Its in Yards Park. I have bought a couple things from Living Social. They are very clear about terms. I will say their app caused Nyxie to spasm and reboot, twice. But the iPad app is nice. Its probably better I don't have it on my phone anyway......too dangerous. :D

I've bought so many things from Living Social and Groupon! The apps both work fine on Nessie (yes, I DID NAME MY STOOPID PHONE!) ;) My wife and I courted quite a bit by using the various purchases via those companies. We enjoy looking at the various coupons we have on Nessie, and deciding where to go. One thing we love about them is how it introduces us to different places that we may not try otherwise. We've never had a bad experience with them, and believe me, we've used them a lot. Tonight we're going to a nice Italian restaurant for dinner, via Groupon. You just have to be smart about what you buy. I always check them online before buying, if I'm not familiar with the place.

I too hope everyone has a nice Valentine's Day!

Have you been to either Vandy's or Boyd's in the 'burro'? Gawh do I miss them. Cooking BBQ is certainly an art to some, there is nothing like it for this good ole Southern Boy!

Love Vandy's. Only had Boyd's a couple times, and I usually go to Vandy's when we do BBQ. I wish we went there more, my wife isn't as big a fan as me. It's weird, I was born in MN, grew up in FL, she was born and raised in the Boro and Savannah, and I like southern food way more than her.

I grew up in Texas, moved here to NC in '97. LOVE the Texas style BBQ, not so much the NC style. Early's right...it's hard to find another style here...it's pretty much all vinegar based. Texas style is tomato based sauce, and is usually brisket or ribs. I REALLY miss Texas BBQ though! If anyone has ever tried it, Underwood's BBQ in Brownwood, Texas is to DIE for! We would drive literally 90 miles to get it on a Sunday after church. Gotta take the new wife to Texas for some REAL BBQ!

Dang, all this talk about grilling is making me wanna stay home and grill tonight...lol.

You guys are killing me with this BBQ talk. I am supposed to be on a diet. ;) I have to say I am a fan of a dry pulled pork myself. I do the crockpot pulled pork with pork loin, with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and some BBQ sauce to cook it in, then take it out and pull it, adding just enough of the juices in the crockpot to moisten it. Its not smoked, but still tasty...

Actually, eastern NC (that's where I am currently) is known for it's vinegar-based chopped BBQ. That's what's prevalent around this area. Most places only have eastern NC-style chopped BBQ (Wilbur's in Goldsboro, Bill's and Parker's in Wilson, and Gardner's BBQ in Rocky Mount) that's mostly vinegar-based. You have to ask for pulled pork BBQ around here, unless you go to a BBQ-specialty place like The Pit in Raleigh. I'm a NJ transplant and I love, love, love the chopped/vinegar-based BBQ.

Jeez, my mouth is watering now!

If anyone is interested, we make pork confit for pizza at the restaurant. Very simple: layer 1in slices of pork shoulder with some bruised garlic cloves, thyme, peppercorns, and juniper berries. Surround all of it with a ton of very course salt and let cure in the fridge for 4 hours. Rinse off the cure and cover with a desired fat. We use duck fat but lard is fine. Cover and bake at 300 for 4 hours. Once slightly cooled pull from fat and shred. I'm a vegetarian and still LOVE this style of production!

Thanks for clarification. Like I said, I'm no expert on bbq

Do you go to the Vandy's at the mall (well it was a mall 15-20 years ago)? My favorite was the one down town, a little shack hole in the wall, 2 elderly hefty black women cookin' it up....mhmm delish!

(this was many eons ago so it might have changed)

Whelp, picked up the sea bass, and damn is fish expensive! I called the lady a little earlier and asked if she liked sea bass. I was met with some hilarious laughter in the WTF style! She knows our oven is out but I said I could get it all cooked in the pan. Looks like I'll have to finish it in the toaster oven, no problem. Should be a nice dinner.

Anyway, I upgraded this morning to AOKP 23 whole wipe and all. Found it, for some reason, to be extremely sluggish... I had the browser crap out on me a couple times so I ended up nandroid-ing back to 21. Seems to work best for my phone. Still looking for some better ways to get superb battery life. I left the house at 12pm, logged in 20min on the web, then another 2 hours at the restaurant (chatting with you guys no less). Went from 100% to 28% in that time. Understand web browsing and screen on time are huge killers, but that's a bit rough IMO.

Mall still there, in fact they just expanded the Belk to double the original size... And I have always gone to the mall one... But I guess I should have known they were different experiences, the three el sombreros in town are the same way... all different, everyone has their own favorite one.

I loaded Liquid Beta 4 on sunday and I haven't had any issues. Many of the same options as AOKP but it feels a little more stock. It comes with Leankernel 1.10 and I am noticing probably 30% better battery life with the same usage. My scientific method of 30% better:rolleyes:, I had to plug in after about 10 hrs before, now I make it 13 hrs, see 30% better:D

Thanks for the tip, Pupkact!
Anyone need some nice "romantic" and fun music to get in the lovin spirit, here's a song from one of my favorite bands: Truckstop Honeymoon. Husband and wife duo came up from LA to KS during Katrina and got married in a truckstop, hence the name! They played at a good friends wedding. Man, were they a ton of fan to dance to...:D

Alright, I'm all music'd up this afternoon. Another lovey dovey song from a favorite out of Austin: The Asylum Street Spankers. Bunch of washed up punk rockers who decided to form this all acoustic anything goes band. Love her voice:

Edit: Totally forgot this is kind of a sad love song. My bad. Least I covered two parts of V-Day.

Haha, they're a hugely fun band, wish I was able to see them live. Watching some other vids of them on YouTube. "It's a Sin to Tell a Lie" is one of my favorites. They have this sophomoric humor to them at times but since they're all parents they put out a childrens album! (even covered Nirvana's Sliver)

Alright, since it's just the 3 of us in here and you seem to be digging my music style, here's the last. Split Lip Rayfield from Kansas. Where punk meets bluegrass. Unfortunately, when I was in Lawrence they lost their guitar player to cancer. They're so talented and I love the sound. The base player plays a home built base out of a truck gas tank and uses weed wacker line for strings. Love em! Song is about him killing all of his past cars.
