Apps New to programming....

Welcome to the forum! :D

For starters, can you program at all, or is it "only" Android that's new to you?

Your #1 resource should be the official site: The Developer's Guide | Android Developers
where you can find a language reference as well as several beginner-friendly tutorials. Check those out, and complete them -- even if you think you have no need for yet another Notepad app!

If you're totally new to programming in general, I'd suggest picking up a number of introductory Java books. Android is NOT 100% Java, but it's darn close and learning Java will serve you well on Android. There are also Android-specific books out.

Please don't ask me for an exact list of ISBN numbers; instead use the search here in the forum as well as at Google, Amazon, and other coding sites. :)

Yeah I agree with Klaymen, start with some basic PC java and I would even go further as to say that Android is NOT a good platform for learning (in my opinion). They use some pretty advanced design patterns and a few I think they made up while they were high. ;)

I'd also suggest that when you are learning Java try and learn the basics of SQL. It doesnt matter what SQL you use, it could be MySQL, MSQL or SQLite. They all use the same language. a basic knowledge of how to create a database record, update a record, delete a record and select and read records is (also in my opinion) required for programming in android.

If you really want a good language to learn how to program on though, I would say try JavaScript.
