Does anyone know the best video codec settings for the Galaxy?

I've tried converting with NPS, but it messes up the aspect ratio, so I'd like to convert some files with another program, but would like to figure out what's best. Anyone with some insight?

I've been using the meridian player.

I use HandBrake and select the Iphone/Ipod Touch conversion presets. Works like a charm and looks and sounds great.

I'm using doubleTwist which actually works great - you just drag the video to the device a la itunes and it converts automatically. One note is that it doesn't decrease the file size at all.
Does using Handbrake decrease the file size? I would imagine a smaller file size could be reached for a screen which is about tenth the size....

I've used Handbrake too, on the iPhone settings. One thing I had to change though is the default codec, from whatever it defaults to (H.323? or something) to MPEG4. Other than that, it worked perfectly.

The standard H.264 works fine for me.

And to the other guy, yes, it majorly decreases file size. About 400 - 500megs for a full movie.

can handbreak use multiple cpu cores when encoding? is 2nd pass needed to increase q.?

Uh, odd. Maybe I just had a duff pass on the encoding when I tried it then. I'll give it anouther go. Ta.

Some time ago I created a little script to convert all videos at once.
My English is not so good and there is no video player with displaying subtitles for Android, so I decided to hardcode subtitles in video. I choose mencoder application from https://launchpad.net/~rvm/+archive/mplayer (there is also version for Windows on www.mplayerhq.hu)

Video codec: H.264
Video biterate: 512kbps
Audio codec: AAC
Audio biterate: 128kbps
Resolution: 480x320 (preserve aspect ratio)

- coding is slow (because I choose 2Pass coding for better quality)
+ subtitles (cp1250)
+ more sharpness on small resolution (line with unsharp=l:1.5)

Run "avi2mp4.sh" in catalogue with .avi (and .txt for subtitle if you want)

Thanks everyone. Handbrake is doing very well. I turned up the deblocking settings and set it up so the files will be appx 100mb each. Turned out great.
