Help Droid 4 wifi problem - server failed to communicate

This is a strange one. My home wifi works fine on my Droid 4 for most sites. But when I go to my profile page on Amazon, I then select the link: "See all 19 reviews", and I get a long timeout with the error: "Server failed to communicate. Try again later." Needless to say, this works fine on other devices connected to my network, as well as when I use 4G. I will try my phone on other wifi networks to see if I get a different result. I followed-up with Verizon, and they can't reproduce the problem on their Razor. Android 2.3.6, of course.

After searching for posts, I found one mention of this error message in 2010, but no resolution. Someone thought it might be due to a server certificate issue.

I am using a D-Link DIR-827 router, and have tried every wireless mode (can't see how this is a wireless issue), as well as trying hard-coding a static IP and primary/secondary DNS server addresses in my phone (those were the same ones my ISP uses).

I'd be interested to know if any other Droid owners running Gingerbread 2.3.6 can reproduce this issue. Here are the steps:

1. Go to an Amazon reviewer's profile page. You can go to a product page first, and then select a reviewer's name link. For example, Google this: amazon Sowden Oskar SoftBrew, and then select the first entry. This takes you to the mobile product page. Scroll to the bottom and select "Amazon.com Full Site". Finally scroll down on the full product page to the first review and select that reviewer's name link: lablanche.

2. At the bottom of the reviewer's product review for the Sowden Oskar SoftBrew, select the "more" link. On my Droid 4, the progress bar jumps to the half-way point and then hangs until I get the server communication error.

That's a really strange issue! I'm sorry to say I can't help much, except to say that I followed your steps to the letter and did not have any problems. The "read more" loaded for me.

I am on my work wifi and 2.3.6, rooted stock D4 with minimal tweaks save for freezing the apps listed here:

I'm happy to say the problem is resolved. Turns out it was the fault of my new D-Link DIR 827 router firmware. Their stateful packet inspection feature was throwing out legit packets. For now, the work-around is to turn the feature off. D-Link is aware of the issue, thanks to me, but whether they will be able to isolate the bug and fix it is anyone's guess.
