Gmail App Inbox - Ghost Messages

Hey all, I'm hoping someone here has experienced this issue and can suggest a fix... cuz frankly I'm at a loss.

In my Gmail app, I have messages showing up in my Inbox that are *no longer* in my actual Inbox. There are a couple of messages I have since deleted, or moved to another folder, or archived that are still showing up. I keep refreshing, and these 'ghost' messages still show up.

Just to be clear, when I go to gmail.com in my browser, these messages are *not* in my Inbox. They are only showing up in my Gmail app Inbox.

I'll take any suggestion that doesn't require me factory resetting my phone

I dont use the gmail app ... but it sounds like the messages are saving in your cache ... try clearing the cache of the gmail app and see if that does the trick.

I did a hard reset this morning. Took 15 minutes and my contacts were already synced. If it comes down to it, it doesn't take that long. Just do it.

I had already tried to clear the cache, and that didn't fix it... but I went ahead and did it again just to be sure. Then, your message gave me an idea... I changed the Inbox to only Sync 1 day, instead of Sync All, refreshed, and then set it back to Sync All -- sure enough, the "ghost" messages are now gone and my Inbox has only the messages in it that it should.

Well, the problem is now fixed -- but frankly if Android is so 'broken' that I have to constantly factory reset it just to fix minor annoyances, then Google needs to go back to the drawing board.

Don't get me wrong, I love my phone and I love Android... but I am really tired of the answer to every problem being "reset your phone". The point being I shouldn't *have* to reset my phone to fix a minor problem.
