i love my hero but there are a few things that REALLY grind my gears !!!

- i still hate the fact that i cannot delete text messages. its really annoying because i cant let ANYONE look at my phone, ever.

- even though im SOOO use to it, still deep down inside my heart i hate using the upright text keypad over the landscape keyboard but the landscape one sucks so badly.

- i hate how to add a contact i have to call the person and hang up, then add the person thru call history to my contacts, i cant go to people and click add new contact.

- when i recivce more than one text at a time handcent and any other messaging app lags so badly. so when i go to sleep and wake up with like 6 text messages, i have to take about 20 minutes just to try and open and read them.

- it gets really annoying when i try and send a text message and an incoming text comes thru and the one i was trying to send FAILS to send.

- WHERE THE HELL IS DROID 2.1 !!!!!!!!!!!

so, what grinds your gears ?

I can delete mine... just long press the message you want to delete.. you get a menu.. select delete message.

- even though im SOOO use to it, still deep down inside my heart i hate using the upright text keypad over the landscape keyboard but the landscape one sucks so badly.

mine is fine..either portrait or landscape..although I prefer portrait.. I guess this is one of those things that you either like or you don't. I have no lag in either (rooted)

- i hate how to add a contact i have to call the person and hang up, then add the person thru call history to my contacts, i cant go to people and click add new contact.

you can add them.. open the people app.. at the top of the screen is ADD CONTACT

you need to clear some old texts off your phone.. that's slowing you down.. 2.1 will be here in early 2Q2010 but that won't magically make your phone faster... until you clean some old texts..

for deleting texts, there is a program called delete old messages on the market. It works.

it allows you to delete texts based on how long age they were sent and doesnt allow the phone to sleep so it wont magically stop deleting. it has a ton of date options, but it will not allow you to delete or save specific threads of texts.

sms quick delete is ok, and allows that functionality, but this one suits my needs. hope this helps.

delete old texts is the only program i found to help me to delete large threads. im talking 8000+

how do i do that lol

Go HERE and read, read, read....just read for a day or so, then take one step at a time. Download the "pre-kitchen"....once that is installed check it out. Hit the .exe and check it out....phone does not need to be hooked up.

Then keep reading and follow the AUTOROOT step by step....soooo not hard at all and before you know it you'll have Fresh 1.1 on your phone and ADDICTED to all kinds of new ROMS and of course this forum!!!

What grinds my gears, threads like this. If you have a problem about something, ask for a solution because there are many out there. Every phone these days is going to have issues, thats just life.

In the future you could always use the search button and follow the countless other threads out there solely dedicated to complaining about something.

Anyway, hope you find a solution to your problem, even if it means throwing your phone away and getting something better for you.

+10000 on this.. read read read read... knowledge is power... and even if auto root doesn't work.. following the guide in the root section step by step and doing a copy/paste with the commands it takes maybe 20 minutes.. very very easy.. plus if you get stuck, there's normally someone there to answer questions.

well i tired many things to be able to delete my text messages and just doesnt ever work at all.

I know one thing that is guaranteed to remove all those texts... it's called RUU..and after running the RUU program.. you'll have a squeaky clean phone just like it came out of the box... of course EVERYTHING gets wiped doing that...

Once he ROOTS and then preforms a "simple" wipe, all will be gone and it'll be like opening your phone right out of the box the day you got it. Putting in your Gmail account and signing it....it even gives you a tutorial.

Just go ahead and go through the [Guide] ROOT thread....and just before flashing the "Fresh 1.1 ROM" do a wipe and presto....your phone is brand new (software-wise) :D:):D

No offense to the OP but if he can't figure out how to delete texts, then rooting is probly not for him. I don't care how easy everyone says it is. There is another thread debating the morality of lying to Sprint so they'll replace a bricked phone caused by installing the wrong ROM.

Knowledge is power.

....and what are we to say to him....if you can't figure it out, stop using the phone!?! That would be exactly the opposite of what this forum is about. The OP has every right to be inquisitive, and vent his problems or issues in hopes that his/her forum brothers and sisters can help out. Sure some might say "search" before posting a question that has been asked before, but whatever.

Options are awesome....some choose to root, some choose NOT to root. We are mearly suggesting....and when we say "it's easy" it's simply because some folks are steered away from rooting because it looks daunting.

He will figure his "deleting messages" problem out, via help from all of us...well some anywho.

...and if he so chooses to root after a slew of research, that will be his desision.

I concur, lying to Sprint is wrong, however bricking your hero after checking and double checking what you are doing (making sure it has been tested by many) is extremely hard.

Long live options!!!! :):D:)

Post's should be helpful or insightful and not structured criticism... If you don't like that the OP is doing something you do not agree with but have nothing to add in assisting the OP situation, it might be best to refrain from commenting at all.

Anyway, OP, if you are getting that many texts, I would suggest more house keeping with this respect. Yes, it is silly that you might need to do it. But, it is a known issue with the phone and yes, those who are heavy texter's all are waiting for 2.X and hopeful relief from this issue. The house keeping can be accomplished with some TEXT/MMS backup programs used in conjunction with the TEXT DELETION app mentioned. It's more work, but will accomplish what you want I think. But to get there you will probably have to wipe all those text's, it might be easier to wipe the phone and start over, if you have all your contacts backed up that is... I didn't name the apps cause there are a few and I don't use them so you might want to ask or look at them yourself and check em' out.

All are my most humble opinions... :)

Happy Trails!
