Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I was thinking of upgrading my PC at home soon too.

Good luck -- any specs or did I miss out on that post a while back?

I hadn't posted them here but here goes:
AMD A8-3870k, 3.0ghz unlocked quad core APU with radeon 6550d on chip. Gigabyte a75-d3h FM1 motherboard, 8gb ddr3 1600oc corsair ram and a Gaming case. All for about $320.
I already have 2x1tb western digital hds, 120 ssd, and win7pro 64bit, so that helps. Plus I am using this for app/web site development and online TV, so we will see what happens as is.
I will be adding a corsair water cooler, a pair of xfx radon 7k series video cards in crossfire/SLI in about a month ($ willing...) and another 8gb of 1600 ram.

I'm procrastinating at work yet again and looking through Kindle books. Realized I haven't ever read Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Is that the one I should get?

And when your done reading all five books in the trilogy, you will know how to fly.

Spoiler
Fall to the ground and forget to land:D

Hmmm... I think I'll have to dust of my copy, haven't read it in about 4yrs.

Nice setup! I have an aging dual-core Intel set up at home back from my gaming days... back when I had time/desire for PC gaming. It runs email and the Interwebs just fine but trying to do any video editing with Adobe PE 9.0 is a chore. You'd think a dual-core Intel CPU with 4GB RAM and an Nvidia 8600GT would do okay, but I have to keep remembering that PC was a powerhouse when it was new 4 years ago. :D I could just buy new guts a lot cheaper than a laptop, but I want to simplify so I'm looking at a nice new laptop - job-dependent of course.

On the Verizon front, I called back this morning and spoke with someone different than yesterday. Explained my situation and justification for a new Nexus, not another "certified like new". She told me that she'd have to check with a supervisor so she put me on hold. She came back and said there won't be a supervisor until 11:00 AM today but she checked with a team lead and they said they can't do anything now because the order for my 3rd replacement has already been processed. She's going to check with the super and if he/she approves, I simply have to refuse the replacment coming to me tomorrow and they will ship me a new phone. She said they will call back within 24 hours to let me know the decision either way.

At least they are willing to work with me. Fingers crossed! (Been doing a lot of that lately...)

Absolutely, BB! Just a fair amount of warning, though: don't read it around other people: they may look at you funny while you're laughing hysterically by yourself :D

I will be interested to hear if they contact you before you contact them. In my experience, Verizon customer service is very polite on the phone while you have their ear, but then follow the "out of sight, out of mind" philosophy once you hang up.

I was told support would get back to me within 72 hours ago regarding a replacement plan for my support ticket. That was 2 weeks ago. Fortunately I haven't has the mic issue again (6 short calls in that time frame) so I haven't made contact with them either.

Thanks! I do that with a couple series that I read so adding another book to the list of ones that make me look insane is all good!

I swear... xda is useless.

Yes. About 99% of the time I'd agree. The 1% not included is because I download from there on occasion.

Why do you say that?

I find XDA to be very useful a lot of the time. There are some great devs doing great work over there and some awesome themes and apps being developed.

BTW for ROMing on the Nexus though, (sorry AF) but nothing beats rootzwiki - the devs are extremely active over there and their forum is very well laid out. I do most of my ROM research/download over there.

I say it because they are highly unfriendly. Not all of them, but the majority of mods I've run across have a superiority complex that irritates the crap out of me. And some of their devs too. Just my personal experience though.
I do agree that Rootz is my first go to when looking for things. They are far friendlier than xda.

I just joined xda because I had a couple of questions I needed answered and also was going to post my Otterbox inductive charging mod. No comments on any of it. Have had no response to my question and not a single comment on the Otterbox mod.

Maybe some of you might know or know someone else who could find out...but with the Rezound wireless charging back, does anyone know what the 5 pin contacts are? I'm assuming they've split up the current accross multiple contacts...maybe 4 positive contacts with one ground?? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Try contacting NightAngel79. I know he's got the Rezound.

My thoughts exactly. When I find solutions over there for someone here I give XDA credit but rarely link over. Especially for new android users. I'd hate for them to be afraid to ask questions for fear of being "yelled" at for not searching first. Maybe they did and the solution wasn't explained in a way that made sense to them.

I must be subscribed to at least 30 threads here where someone was very rude to the OP. I hit the report button and then post some friendly advice so they are not scared away. Then I end up trying to help and I may have no clue about their phone or issue. Luckily the mods or guides have stepped in most of the time and gotten them pointed them in the right direction (and removed or edited the offending post).:)

I do remember you mentioning that. Don't worry, I have a reminder in my calendar to call Verizon in about 22 hours if they haven't called me first. :)

Afternoon all hope you are all well! Busy wknd no time to play on the PC or GN :(

on xda: it can be a brutal place to post. It does have value though....there are some good folk over there just few and far between imo. If they had mods that were half as good as the ones on AF it would improve ten fold. That is their weakest link!

Happy Monday to you all AF family hope your weekend was relaxing and peaceful!

Knowing what I've seen, I would insist that they put you into a new RAZR or Rezound (and I have a strong personal bias for the Rezound).

What I'm about to say isn't scientific. I am even ok with being flamed (within friendly limits) for saying it, even though I have a red name tag, because I know it's not going to make sense to people.

But, bizarre as this sounds, it's the truth:

With several of the major phone releases I have participated in, there are always one or two people who have a karma mismatch with the phone in question. Not their fault, just is what it is. I have actually seen more than 4 cases (just off the top of my head) where they have gone through more than 8 replacements (I think that the record that I have seen is 14), and never getting a working copy. Refurbs, new, hardware version changes, different software - and nothing helped.

And then people start to question and flame them. And they were good people, not seeking insane perfection, not abusive - just living proof of the statistical adage that anything that can happen, might. In statistical terms, they are the -3 sigma cases.

So I just call that a karma mismatch, you call it whatever you want.

Maybe I am wrong, I often am.

But if I'm not, the sooner you get off this merry go round, the happier you'll be.

Sorry, I hope everyone trusts that I have nothing against you or the Gnex.

I just think that this is starting to sound like one of those weird cases.

I get the Rezound doesn't have ICS. Here's a ROM that does.

http://androidforums.com/rezound-all-things-root/485773-rom-2-5-cleanrom-2-3-ics-edition-clean-smooth.html

I'll go put on my asbestos boxers now.

If no one else will flame you, I will.

*runs away and hides*

:p

In all seriousness, I had the following happen to me:

phone 1: Worked from release for about 2 weeks. issue with charging notification, well documented. I was within the 14 days so I got a new one.

Fast forward to a week or two ago/

phone 2: worked for a few months, but then the speaker just died. No sound/alarms/media (really only cared about alarms and speaker phone). I gota refurb

phone 3: No signal anywhere. I stood in places where both previous Nexii and a TB had gotten full 4G and did not even get voice.

phone 4: same as above

phone 5: I love it. it works, and I am back in love.

So...I would say that if you really like the phone keep pushing. But EarlyMon was right, HTC makes some great phones and honestly, it was hard for me to make the decision for Nexus vs Rezound. The dev community is what made my resolve strong, and I am glad I got the Nexus. But you may have different priorities.

XDA is cool, I like their admin and have mod friends there - but they are their own deal with their own rules.

If you look on the XDA channel, you'll find a video telling newbies that they ought to search first. Their forum, their rules, I totally respect that.

They are to developers forums what we are to Android users forums. They're older and larger than we are and have drawn a few bad eggs disrupting things, so they have newer policies in place to deal with that. My hat is off to them. :)

RootzWiki has been growing well also.

Friendly request - credit where credit is due. :)

Some Android sites don't allow linking to the "competition" and in fact, one site has copied quite a bit of my advice and tried to claim copyright on it (part of the reason I chaff when their unmentionable name comes up).

But let's stay fair and square - if you found info elsewhere, give a crediting link when quoting.

Because our forum is about rising above, yes? :) ;)

And will someone tell that guy pissed off in the 3D forum that the reason that a lot of my posts didn't include the XDA links he insisted that I provide was because an XDA pal was quoting me? :D :D

LoL so anyways, cheers!

Afternoon everyone! Hope everyone had a good weekend. I am starting off on 2.5 hours of sleep, thanks to a sick 13 mo old. Poor guy has an ear infection.

So MWC off to an interesting start. I think my favorite device so far is the HTC One X. I am a sense fan, and I like what they have done with it. The SGSIII just looks too fragile to me. I do wish I could be there...

Lucky- Sorry to hear about your issues. Hopefully they get it resolved ASAP. I know you may not be interested in the RAZR, but Verizon does consider it their #1 phone, so if they are offering it as a replacement, I think that is a good sign, and you should be able to get any phone they offer, not just the RAZR.
