Galaxy Nexus Watering Hole

I know you'll all appreciate this as much as I did when I found it:

He had me power it off, wait about 10 seconds, power it back on, and he made a test call to me. No issue. So he says he feels confident my problem is fixed. I said the polite version of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Thanks. I spewed soda out my nose when I read this. :D

Could the problems with the tower have been the root cause of my issues?
Certainly possible. And on a side note, I have a bridge to sell you...

That's the latest. We'll see what happens! Not holding my breath lest I turn blue, but I'm still willing to play the game.
If I'm ever in Rocky Mount, I'm buying you a drink and swapping Verizon horror stories with you. I am now convinced that their customer service reps take classes to learn how to give the customer nothing and make him happy about it.

Does anyone use a specific e-Reader app on their phone? Thinking about trying out Aldiko on the Playbook, but I heard good things about MoonReader as well. Any insight? Thanks.
I stumbled across Aldiko when trying to find a reader that could open my own epub files. I'm no connoisseur of e-readers, but Aldiko seems as good as the Google and Kindle apps I have tried in the past.

As an avid reader, I still find that I prefer holding a book in my hands to an e-book whenever it's practical.

I said the polite version of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? He told me there were several complaints of dropped calls and other issues related to my tower yesterday afternoon and those problems were fixed at approximately 8:30 AM today... which was almost exactly the same time my phone locked up and rebooted. He said that when we rebooted the phone, it automatically updated to the latest towers, roaming capabilities, etc. I said I don't have to do *228, option 1 to update my towers? He said no, LTE phones do that automatically upon power-up.

Lucky,

I truly hope that fixes it for you. I guess it's plausible that it's a tower issue. However, I would think if it's a tower issue, nearly everyone using that tower would experience it, and there would be more people screaming about it.

I think mine was definitely a phone issue. I had the one way audio issue quite a few times on my new phone, even after replacing the sim card in it. However, it's yet to happen on this phone, and I've made a few hundred calls on it. Same towers, same locations. I live in Huntersville, work in Charlotte, and I don't experience that problem at all anymore.

Anyway, good luck on getting your phone working for you! I just know when you do get it 'just right', that you'll be very glad you stuck with the Nexus!

I live in Huntersville, work in Charlotte, and still have that problem. That should tell you the towers are likely not the issue. ;)

If I thought I could swap out the hardware like NCTurner did and get a good one in return, I'd do it. But after reading (un)Lucky's journal entries, I think I'll just stick with what I have and hope the "voice privacy" suggestion helps for my limited calling habit.

Literally hundreds of people have used Aldiko based on my recommendations beginning in July 2010.

A short while back they "updated" it with feature changes until I couldn't stand it for the lack of utility so I bailed on it.

This last week, chanchan05 (member here) turned me on to this and I cannot say enough good things about it -

All of the Project Gutenberg features work, just enter this url as one of your feeds - PG Mobile (that's m dot gutenberg dot org)

Lucky Armpit - I regret saying this, but I'm having trouble with the tower theory.

It's possible that trouble has existed on that tower and no one has complained until quite recently. But I'm not seeing one-way call issues elsewhere on our forums, and I while there's lots that I don't see, I do see more phone forums than many. Because you're not the only one here reporting the issue, this leaves us with two scenarios:

Either there are several areas having this issue and no one has reported them to Verizon yet and no one except a few Nexus owners have brought it up on our forums - or - there was a short run of Nexii with a bug.

I could be wrong, I often am, I hope for your sake that I am, but I'm going with choice 2, especially as he made no attempt to ask you to try for a few days now that tower service has happened.

I'll keep a good thought and hope that your next phone works just fine, I'm sure you want that more than me! :)

As for the coincidence in time between that tower going screwy and your phone rebooting, I'd like to know more about that. When you're on 4G, both your CDMA and LTE radios are both fully active - I imagine that some set of signals might confuse a phone until it reacts that way, but if so - wow!

Giving this a shot tonight - thanks Early!

PS: Do you know if there is a way to sync read status across devices? This may be the only saving grace for Adilko unless I decide to do all my reading on my Tablet in which case I will just find the best single device reader.

Unlike Aldiko sync being supplied by a third party, Mantano sync is being built-in to the reader itself.

It's under beta right now, but you can join -

pastafarian mentioned that it FC'd on his Honeycomb tablet but I don't have details.

I know we share our GNex photos here, so I thought I would share a couple. 1st one is from yesterday as Evan had to come to work with me for a few hours, and yes, that is an extremely oversized donut, I wanted to post it last night but I was busy. The second is from my commute home tonight. No problem for me with my GNex camera.:)

That donut looks SO delicious.

<---- wants that donut :d

They make them at a local Mom & Pop that I have been going to for years. It's nice, they see me walking by the window and have my coffee ready when I get in. It is actually faster for them to throw it together, but I feel guilty getting called out of line though.

Night 4 of cooking. They actually told me they liked this one. Cavatappi, broccoli rabe and chicken in a creamy pesto sauce. With salad and garlic bread. Pinot Grigio for Pop and I, milk for Ann.

(Now I have to clean up. I make quite a mess )

I'll take that over a donut.:)

I agree with all if you, Lucky, NC and esmith: could still be equipment, software or tower; hard to say. My one way happens only when I am on my home tower on OKI. Traveled to Dallas over Christmas, no issues. Came across the state on 40 last week, spent the weekend in Raleigh, no issues. Currently in the High Country, no issues. Also, a way back, there was a question about the nexus being used on an extender. I can confirm that the nexus will connect to an extender, no issues here either.

Esmith, what is the Voice Privacy suggestion you are using? So far I have not had the issue in about three weeks, so here is hoping.

On another note, we are having a wicked thunderstorm up here at Mt Mitchell tonight. Sitting in a cloud with lightening dashing around, torrential rain and booming thunder, are we sure it is still February?
