Just got a quote from them: $140 for carbon fiber...Made By Infinity Carbon

I have to wonder why you would choose Carbon Fiber of all materials for a cell phone case that's supposed to protect the device from falls and other shock:

"Carbon fiber is very strong when stretched or bent, but weak when compressed or exposed to high shock" (Wikipedia)

Why are you planning on stretching or bending your cell phone case?

Though I suspect it's all for the "sexiness" factor of carbon ______. That's all you hear about nowadays. Carbon fiber, carbon nanotubes, it never ends...

because in this usage, it will be just fine. trust me. if you can crash a bike going 30+ MPH and not damage it, dropping your phone with a CF case will be just fine.

your taking those quotes out of proper context.

one of the benefits of CF, in bikes for example, is it dampens shock. So the "high shock" you quote here is not relative to a dropped phone case.. it would be relative to maybe a thrown against the concrete phone case.

Hmm, alright, I see. Thanks for clearing that up to me. There just wasn't any real context in that paragraph I read on Wikipedia. Teaches me to read only the introduction to the Wiki page before I post something about it, I guess. :D

Real carbon fiber is not cheap. I would bet anything this is just a CF print. Not real CF.

no, ya think? :p

BUT.... if they can crank out in volume, and it comes out of Asia, where most all of the CF bike parts come out of, you would be surprised how cheap they can make them.. way cheaper than the OP's original post price.. way cheaper. the real big cost is often the mold.

anyone can post on Wiki.. and post anything they want really ;)

Well yeah, but it's generally cleared up so quickly because of changelogs that the chances that you loaded up the page before someone changed whatever vandalism someone else posted is incredibly small. One time I DID come across a page with vandalism on it and I refreshed it five minutes later and it was gone. :D

I would think so too, but look at the price of the pre-made phone cases. They aren't as comparatively cheap as I would have expected.
