T-Mo UK update!

Yeah, I heard rumours of a naming dispute between HTC and T-Mo regarding the "G1 Touch" and that it has caused delays. Today I was informed its being renamed, again, to the G2 and will be released within 1 month, so yeah it has been delayed unfortunatley. But atleast the name G2 is a bit cooler than G1 Touch lol.

T-Mobile are NOT getting the HTC Hero, thats what they said at the launch of the "My Touch 3G", which oddly they are now pitching as the rival to the Hero which will now only be on Orange.

Have a look at some comparisons here..... T-Mobile fail.

HTC Hero vs. T-Mobile myTouch 3G... fight!

Personally I will be getting the Hero on Orange. Rang up Cheltenham store this morning and they said it should be launched next Wednesday (15th).

Please get your facts correct.

T-mo USA will NOT be releasing the Hero.

T-mo UK WILL be releasing the Hero under 2 possible names G2 or the G1 Touch.

The reason T-mo will not be releasing the Hero is because they are only just releasing the Magic over there (myTouch 3G). A phone which has been out in the UK for around 6 months.

Just called T-mob UK and apparently the Hero is due for release on Monday although the guy admitted that there had been previous delays...

I got the same answer when i asked, it should be out on monday, which is good because pay day is tuesday :p

Infortunately the lady on the phone was unable to tell me which monthly plans would be available, but there would be one where you can get the phone free on contract.

I was in Hereford, UK today, walked into the Orange shop and they pulled out a Hero from stock. Surprisingly, the phone wasn't on display and I had to ask for him to go get one. Free on 40GBP/month plan was what I was told, 50GBP for 35/month, 90GBP for 30/month. Internet is included. The phone felt great, though I didn't have a chance to do much with it. I left Orange (heard bad things about them, didn't plan on getting it through them anyways, just wanted to see one in person) and went to the T-Mobile shop to ask if they had an update...I WAS TOLD IT WAS DELAYED UNTIL SEPTEMBER! Apparently there was a software issue that is preventing T-Mobile from releasing and the lady I spoke with believed Orange would have an optional recall or OTA update to fix the ones they had already sold, but might stop selling them for now (which could explain their hesitancy to display them in shop).
I'm pretty bummed out. Thinking about going to get a G1 as you can get them free on cheap contracts nowadays. That'll probably change and I'll end up waiting as long as it takes.
Atleast I'll have a chance to play with the Samsung Galaxy that releases on O2 next week (supposedly).
I don't know if the delay is due to the sluggishness some are reporting, or the missing Facebook widget that was previewed but not included in releases, or something else (if its even real), but HTC and the carriers better get it fixed quick before the press buzz over the phone falls away and we start looking forward to the next Android release.

I wasn't aware there was supposed to be a Facebook widget, and I've been following all the info I can get since it was announced, in fact I seem to remember reading coverage of some such event where HTC were asked about a fb widget but said there wouldnt be one, only Twitter. As for t mobile saying thereis a software error, I have hasd no issues whatsoever with my hero since I got it, and it sounds to me like they are feeding you bullshit as they are worried about loosing customers to orange over their delays on this particular model. In fact i would be willing to bet on this, as every t mobile employee who's answer is reported when asked about the hero is different, and I think they know bigger all, and are. nervous as orange got it out faster than them.

Slinky.

T-Mobile UK's official Twitter (twitter.com/tmobileofficial) has updated just a bit ago to say that they are selling Hero's online tomorrow and in stores in the coming days.
I guess I was wrong about the FB widget. I thought I remember it from one of the unveiling vids, but I can't find it.
I agree about T-Mobile feeding people BS to keep customers. That or employees are kept in the dark and go by rumors just like the rest of us.
I really find it disappointing that Twitter is the best source of news for T-Mobile. Like they are trying to be cool by not releasing professional press statements? This is the first big phone release I've really paid attention to for T-Mobile, but they screwed up big time by not releasing a release date until the day before release and being a week behind Orange.

On the 3 occassions I spoke to Tmo over the last week, I was always given the same excuse for the delay. They were waiting for enough stock levels to ensure there'd be enough to go around. :-/

Seems like a funny one to me.

Either way I'll be hoping to get my order in on Tuesday morning.

I heard a rumour that Tmo will have a newer firmware version than Orange. Maybe that was the delay?

From what those on Orange have said, the "lag" issue is hardly noticable. Certainly not as severe as Engadget made out...! Phonedog_Noah did notice a bit of lag, but said that HTC are working on updates which improve any problems there...

Hey Guys, got my HTC Hero or should I say, T-Mobile G2 Touch today, think I must have been one of the first.

So far so good with the phone. Although it arrived in the smallest box with no proper instruction manual. Just a one page fold out guide type thing.

Be interested to hear if that is the case when, other people get theirs.

As regards the phone, it really is a great piece of kit, few little things I need to iron out, but really loving it.

marka87uk I've been on T-Mobile for about 5 years now and have no complaints, 3G coverage is a bit sketchy outside of the major towns and cities but, they doesn't really bother me and I imagine it is the same with orange. Other than that it's great, never went over my monthly allowance, weekly text alerts telling you how much you have left to use. Brilliant
