Gizmo5/GV/Sipdroid calls were working fine yesterday over both wifi and 3g but today for some reason whenever I make an outbound call through my N1 it dials but I hear nothing and sipdroid hangs up after 22 seconds =(

Inbound calls are fine and when I initiate calls to phone #'s through Google Voice on my computer it comes through on my N1 where I can pick up fine and I can hear it. Complete opposite though when making outbound calls - no sound/hangup at 22 seconds.

Has anyone else experienced this as well? I searched through previous threads and on regular google searches but found nothing on this particular error.

I started using fring, it has better voice quality for me on my N1. It seems like sipdroid isnt using the ear speaker anymore, but fring does.

(fring just added SIP support)

How well does it work with incoming calls? Do you use Google Voice with it?

I have a sipgate/sipsorcery/GV setup at home with a Linksys Pap2 and it works ok, but not perfect. Certainly not well enough to silence my wife's complaints so I fear trying a data only plan for cell phones.

I use sipdiscount for free calls to US/Canada/UK and a bunch of other countries (you topup 10 euros, and u get 120 days of free calls, plus your 10 euros to spend). There's a bunch of websites by the same company eg voipdiscount etc. Its good, but there's a limit of 300 minutes a week. Use google to find peoples opinions on it, I'm not indorsing it :)

The sip address is just sip.sipdiscount.com or sip.voipdiscount.com etc (same domain works for all sites. Username/pass is the same as you sign up with.

I also use GV via Gizmo5 - so you just use a standard SIP client and gizmo handles the outbound via google voice.

Fring works _alot_ better for me call quality wise than sipdroid ever did. The only downsides of fring are:

- It lists you're phone contacts, BUT its not integrated with the android dialer itself, you use fring to dial. Thats ok tho.
- You can't dial numbers that are not in your contacts list (god knows why they did that!). To get around it, pick any contact in fring, edit the number and dial - the contact number WONT be saved, so it wont overwrite you're contact. Its alot easier to do than it sounds :)

I also find with sipdroid or fring, you need to keep the screen alive. Otherwise the CPU speed drops and you get choppy audio. They really should implement no sleep in their apps.
