I recently downloaded the .zip file of 2.1 I followed the instructions on the forum, and it said to select Hboot when the phone turns on. When I select this option nothing happens, and the only other selection that works is "recovery". If I hit this, the phone appears to try and restart, but gets caught up on a screen of a Hazard triangle with ! and a phone laying next to the warning indicator. It sits here, and only stops when I pull the battery.

I am putting the files on my phone from an Apple pc, but I do not believe that should matter. There have also been warning messages while the phone is on that read "sd card not found application cannot work" I removed the card and put it back in a few times but to no avail.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Thanks

It might matter macs tend to screw up the compressed files. Be sure the file is names PB00IMG.ZIP of the SD card and that the file is in the root of the card.

Guys. If you didn't originally format the SD card IN THE ERIS you are going to have problems. Hook up to a PC, copy over the contents of your card to your computer, then reformat the card with the Eris. Hook it back up, copy just the PB00IMG.zip file to the root of the SD card, then try again.

I had the same problem for an hour last night until I figured it out - nothing but "Recovery Mode" and then the black screen with a warning triangle and a phone icon. After some trial and error I figured this out (and also remembering I had taken my SD card straight out of my BB Tour and never "needed" to reformat it when I first got the Eris.

Try it. It should work.

I didn't format my card at all. I just installed it into the root then did the power off and volume down plus power on thingy.

2.1 was installed.

Are you saying it's better to format first then install it?

No, if you are using the original SD card that came with the phone, it is already formatted correctly. A different (old phone, new card, etc.) SD card may not have been formatted correctly. That seems to be the reason some people have had to reformat for the install to work.

Man I forget the average age here is like 15. :/

Ok - IF you are having PROBLEMS with the update, reformat the card. Either in the device (my preferred) or as NKT said - to Fat32 in your PC. But most Vista-PC's onward won't let you format into Fat32 so it's just easier to do it on the device, IMO.

If your update went smoothly, and you are up and running on 2.1 - OBVIOUSLY you don't need to do this. I thought that was pretty much common sense. I guess not. For those of you who may be having some issues with the update not being found, or the Recovery Mode loop that ends in a black screen with an orange exclamation point - this should fix that problem and get you on 2.1.

If your phone updated already you are fine.

PS...some people are reporting sluggishness. Therefore, it might be wise to do a format anyways. Even if 2.1 was installed without the format. Would you agree with that?

It's always a good practice to do the upgrades via a fresh FAT32 formatted card. If you don't have a spare, just copy everything off, format, put upgrade file on it, upgrade, remove upgrade file and copy your stuff back.

It's best to eliminate as many variables as you can.

I'm still a little concerned this is all a Chinese attack. Next week they will disable all our phones. That would suck.

anyone wanna help me copy the zip to my folder? i really dont understand it keeps goin to winRAR

STOP TRYING TO OPEN IT.

This process has been explained to you like six times now. If you can't figure out such a simple thing, you have NO business trying to flash anything to your phone. Seriously, when you brick it, nobody is going to feel bad for you.

Yep...you're explaination was way wrong then. This statement led many to believe you need to format the SD card. Because I have NEVER had to format my SD card. Therefore, your statement was written very poorly.

Ok - one more time for the slow kid in the back of the class...

IF. Your phone is not taking the upgrade. THEN. You need to format the card and reload the upgrade file.

Is that a little clearer for you? Here - I'll even go one further...

IF. Your upgrade went fine. THEN you don't need to do anything because you obviously loaded the file correctly the first time.

Better?

Right before my clarification, another member "got" it:

Perhaps the problem is less my wording and more your lack of critical thinking? It's nto really all that complicated... Why on earth would you have to reformat your SD card to get your phone to take an upgrade that it had already installed?:thinking::thinking: Wow. Yeah, I'm the confused one here, I can see that clearly.

It's only for those of us that swapped in a different card or formatted it in another device that may be having the problem. Again, NKT is correct. When doing a complete re-install of your OS (be it a computer or mobile OS) you are always better off using clean, freshly formatted media and drives to avoid possible conflicts. Welcome to computing 101. Thanks for paying attention. ;)

I swear more than half this board has no business messing with unauthorized ROMs. This is why leaks are hard to come by. The theorists who think this was an intentional "beta test" leak by HTC or VZW are really funny. Trust me, they HATE stuff like this getting into the wild because folks that have no business flashing ROMs and OS's (especially not fully tested and approved versions) are much more likely to send a half dozen forums and fan-sites into a tizzy (and thru them, online media outlets that report on this stuff) because you can't even get it to LOAD on your device, much less work correctly. You end up bricking phones and the update gets a bad rep before it even rolls out. If it's less than the gold code release, chances are it still has some bugs, which will get blown all out of proportion (and usually fixed before it hits RTM status). This is why anyone in the know doesn't really talk about it or give you "leaks" - it's a PR and marketing nightmare for the QA crew trying to test and get the updates thru approval and compliance. Care to imagine how many calls VZW support is going to get today due to attempted home-grades messing up warrantied phones? (they will of course do something to break it and then get it "replaced" under warranty - at a significant cost to the company) You think this is in any way good for HTC or VZW? Now that really is funny. The only thing that's "good" for them is a solid, officially approved release that they are prepared to support. Anything else is a disaster for them.
