Speed of the Hero compared to other Android phones

Ok, my question here is about the speed in which the Androids operate. I have a HTC Hero, I have it rooted and running the Fresh 1.1 ROM and the more I play with it, the more I don't like it. I work at a Verizon franchise and get to play with the Moto Droid all day and it is amazing at how much quicker it is. So, what I am asking is, is there antother DROID powered device besides the Nexus One that puts out similar speeds? And is there one for Sprint that is coming out soon or rumored to be atleast? Any help is appreciated here. Thanks!

The Supersonic for Sprint. That one should be on par with performance of the others. It's supposed to have a 1ghz snapdragon processor in it.

There's no set time for the Supersonic but rumors say it would come out late Summer 2010

I'm going to put the smart money on the 1-year anniversary date of the Hero, or maybe a week or three later. Why? People who bought Hero phones are the most likely customers to buy a Supersonic, many of them bought a Hero the weekend it came out, and none of them are going to buy a new phone less than a month before their 1-year anniversary date & get raped on the price, even if god himself were to part the skies, thank Linus Torvalds & Google, and encourage Sprint customers to buy them right away. Sprint's going to want good first-week sales, so they're going to make sure they time it so customers likely to buy a Supersonic right away will, in fact, be able to do so without being held back by rebate eligibility dates.

By the way, if you take advantage of the 1-year upgrade, does sprint tack 2 years onto your current contract's expiration date, or does it just extend your current contract so that its new ending date is two years after the purchase date of the new phone? It would really suck to get 4 or 5 new annual-upgrade phones, then end up discovering you've basically sold your soul to Sprint for the rest of your life (because you'd still need new phones, and would have to extend your contract more each time).

I don't think I've disagreed more with an analogy then I do with miamicanes, I don't think Sprint is basing any Supersonic decision on Hero users, they are probably doing whatever they can to release a phone like that, they know keeping up with Verizon is crucial to gaining new customers.

^^^ It depends. If the Supersonic and their 4G is ready in July, they'll release it then. But if they realize it won't be ready until September anyway, at that point they might as well wait 2 more weeks and increase their odds of a Slashdot-worthy first week of sales.

I am confused... Did you get the Hero before you became a Verizon employee? Don't you get a free line of service (like my brother does who works at an AT&T store in Chicago) for being a VZW employee? If no for the first question, why didn't you realize how "awesome" this Droid was before you get your Hero? I have an unrooted Hero with no lag, I just don't see how the phone could be faster... But I guess it could?

Just some more details about why you have a Sprint Hero when you work for VZW please

My Hero is unrooted and pretty fast IMO. I guess I need to get my hands on a DROID to see the difference.

When I played with a Droid there was not a mind blowing difference. It may have been marginally faster, but that is it.

The whole Sprint Premier Customer full annual discount may be done. I just talked to one of my co-workers today, who is a Sprint Premier Customer, and he said Sprint told him that they just recently discontinued the annual upgrade benefits for Premier Customers. I have not verified this to be true yet, but I do believe him. He was a very avid Sprint customer but now is considering going to Verizon.

Just checked my Sprint Premier benefits and it still says I qualify for the 12 month upgrade... Don't know who he talked to... but they told him that they stopped doing the 12 month upgrade for Premier Customers 3 months ago.

Here is what I pulled from my Sprint Account online:

" If you are a Sprint Premier customer, here’s what you can get every 12 months with Premier:

• Up to $150 toward the primary phone on your account with a new two–year Sprint subscriber agreement
• Free shipping and activation when you upgrade on sprint.com "

Of course it says "up to" $150... so that does not mean 150$ guaranteed.

I don't care how fast a phone is, if it doesn't feel good in my hands. And the Droid certainly doesn't feel good in my hands.

I don't think Sprint had discontinued the yearly upgrade for premier customers. I hadn't heard about it anyway (either way, I'm on an employee plan, so I get yearly upgrades anyway )

Ok, I have Sprint because I have had Sprint for 6 years and was under contract already when I started at VZW. Also, I work at a Franchise and not a corp. store, so their benefits are a little different. I get the cellular service itself for $15/mo, but since I would not be on a contract and am not a VZW corp. employee, I would have to pay full retail for the device... which is heck of a lot of money. So, seeing as though I have a brother on Sprint, to where we can share a plan, and recently ported my wife onto it aswell, and it is in my brother's name so I get to take advantage of his company discount for our line. So, all that being said, I pay $45 a month with taxes and insurance for basically unlimited everything with Sprint on a Hero that I got for $99 at Radio Shack (which is cheaper then anywhere else FYI).
