Help usb charging disabled in ics (android 4.0)?

I successfully upgraded to ics (android 4.0). It works great, no complaints, except decreased battery life.

Also, which is my main problem with ics, charging via usb cable to another device has been disabled. There is no option to change it and I've tried search and came up empty.

Any ideas?

I'm not rooting again, so that automatically is not an option. I almost bricked the thing trying to unroot and restore to factory condition.

Whatever unrooted fix or modification options, I'll try those.

FYI, if you don't unroot, ics won't install.

for those of you whom are still trying to unroot, you need recovery mode with the blue text, not the orange. if your text is wrong, you have the wrong version.

It really won't charge off of anything that's not USB 3.0.

But if you're rooted, you can install an ICS rom.. I just bought a tf and it wouldn't recognize that there was an update.. so I had it rooted and flashed in a couple minutes

Before ICS, when I was using honeycomb, usb charging worked fine. IMHO, ICS broke usb charging. I say that because usb 2.0 and lower are compatible with each other and apparently 3.0 is not backward compatible for charging.

I am a long time PC technician, so these are my expert observations. I hope this is helpful to people.

Dude, I'm talking about upgrading to ICS naturally (OTA method). I thought rooting was cool at first, till it started bricking my stuff when I tried to upgrade.

I do all the hacking on my computers, when it comes to my cell and my tablet, I'm convinced I don't want to mess with that anymore. I would rather just use it as is.

Unrooting worked for me, but I feel bad for the peeps that it doesn't work for. Don't give up, keep trying new methods until you succeed.

So you didn't change any hardware. The OEM cable and wall adapter are USB 3.0 charging. The TF was always USB 3.0 necessary.

My TF never did any "real" charging from a computer with USB 2.0 slots, and when I used a USB extenson cable on my OEM wall adapter and cable, it didn't charge either. There are plenty of threads stating that the TF would at best get a trickle charge from USB 2.0 slots.

So I just wonder if your TF was ever really charging via some USB slot using Honeycomb. If it was and now it's not with ICS, that's quite interesting. Is it a USB 2.0 or 3.0 slot?

I had it in a usb 2.0 slot and yes, it always charged to full when it was android honeycomb. I never even used the wall charger, unless I was impatient to wait for full charge.

Um, thinking back before I upgraded to ICS, as I do homework a lot on PC and watch movies on my tablet at same time, I would have to say that a full charge would take couple of hours from 30% to full. 30% is the lowest I ever let it get to.

I noticed this, because when I used my tablet before ICS, I repeatedly use it down to 30% on purpose, and then full charge it. I was trying to drain the battery and full charge it, attempting to extend battery life and capacity. I pretty much leave it on all the time, for this reason.

I guess if I want to extend battery capacity and life, I should read some guides on that.

I don't want to hijack this thread but wanted to point out that if you use
a USB 3.0 extension cable, the Transformer will charge from the wall adapter.
This has been verified by many users, myself included.
