Receipt Scanning and Storage

Anyone have a good app/system for scanning and storing receipts?

I'm thinking of an app that will take a picture of the receipt, allow me to attach some keywords/description to it and perhaps even uploading/backing up the information to my dropbox or box account or maybe to a cloud service that the app is associated with.

Any suggestions on the best way to do this?

How about Lemon?

Anyone tried that?

While evernote might work, Lemon looks like it's more of a 1 trick app, which just concentrates on saving receipts.

But, I tried scanning a receipt with Lemon and it's been uploading for almost an hour now, so something is definitely wrong.
Edit: Tried a different receipt and with wifi off, still just stuck on uploaded.

Hopefully, their support will get back to me eventually.

I store all my receipts in Evernote, among other notes.

Does seem like this is a good way to go. I don't really need the receipts automatically parsed and individual data extracted. I just need to be able to find a receipt 2 years down the road if I have to for a warranty or something.

Still, lemon does look interesting. I don't know why the upload isn't working at all though. Hopefully, their support will have something to say about that soon.

Only 5 receipts a month free. It doesn't appear as if it's storing the image of the receipt. That's really what I want.

I don't really need any analysis/breakdown of my spending.

I also feel comfortable with a more established company. I feel pretty good that Evernote will be around a while and will keep the receipts available long term.

I'm still really curious to see how lemon works, if I can get the image uploader to work.

For me Evernote works great. I have a separate notebook just for receipts. With the OCR, it will search the text within the receipt.

The only thing you might have to watch out for is how big your receipt image files are. I have my camera set to the highest resolutions, so a receipt can be around 2 megs. So, that might make you bump up against your 60 megs / month upload limit. What I usually do is send the images to my computer, use FastStone Image Viewer to save it as a lower quality, which reduces the file size to around 300 KB.

Shopitize looks interesting, but the Play Store says it's incompatible with my Droid X.

I wonder if it'll always be free. Don't want to get stuck with a storage fee later on.

I think I've tried Camscanner once and didn't really like it.

I'm a little annoyed at lemon already. Their support responded to an email about clarifying the free plan and deleting an extra account I created, but they ignored my email about the uploading issue which was send at the same time.

Leaning towards just using Evernote. I have a level of confidence that my data will be there and accessible long term.

Finally got Lemon to work. Their server must have been down the first time I tried because it worked fine today.

Anyhow, nothing that exciting there.

For my needs, I think Evernote is the best way to go. I created a notebook called Receipts and I'll just store pictures of all receipts there along with description info that I can search on down the road.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions.

Similiar to lexluthor I need something that just allows me to take a picture of my work receipts and stores them somewhere(preferably my work PC or a cloud if need be) so I can access them at a latter date if need be. Being able to easily search through my saved receipts is obviously a big plus! I don't need an app that is going to analyze my spending habits as this is just for my corp cc. I also don't want to start getting offers spammed to me.

I haven't checked out Evernote but I will now. I downloaded 3 apps yesterday that I'm going to try out.

  • Expensify
  • Smart Receipts
  • Digital Receipts
Digital Receipts is especially intriguing because of it's NFC capabilities though there are no stores I can find in my area that have NFC scanners yet. Being able to, someday, just tap my phone at checkout and not only pay for my purchase but get a digital receipt via an app like DR would by awesome.

If any of you have used any of those 3 apps and wouldn't mind sharing your experience I would appreciate it.

Is there an easy way to search your pool of receipts if need be?

I also use CamScanner for scanning receipts. With CamScanner you can add notes (manually entered) to each page of a document, and later search these notes which will bring you right to that page. However, if you upload your documents as PDF to cloud storage, these notes are not retained - the notes are only searchable on your device.
